Perhaps an owner might not want his wife knowing how much he’s spending on his hobby?

Why is it that some aircraft restoration projects have this air of secrecy built into them.
Unless the project is being filmed for a TV documentary, or video.

Otherwise to me, it seems rather unnecessary. Secrecy for the sake of secrecy.

Abuse of hospitality will only end up with the banning of cameras and possibly visitors as well. There are plenty of workshops where that policy is in place already.

DD

Amen. Just because we can’t see pics of what had been photographed previously in the UK is no big problem to my mind. All the better to marvel at what has been achieved by AvSpecs when she is eventually rolled out.

Would I be alone in suggesting this thread has run its course?

The owner is a very very rich, and as history has told us these people get what they want when they want, and can ensure that it will happen as they wish!

Doesn’t matter how rich you are you are not going to stop people talking and speculating about a project that is quite well known anyway. Like I said- FHC were aware of the posted photos but didn’t gallop in with lawyers blazing.
They don’t wish to have anything in print- I assume because that cannot be removed at a later date should they have a change of mind.
If anybody takes photos out of a workshop’s generosity they should always ask about posting/ publishing them as a courtesy beforehand. If not- such good will will not last.

At least we know more about this than the Stuka and definitely the Il-2, so we should feel lucky 🙂 I’ve seen the previously-posted pics and kept them in my memory bank! She’ll be a beauty when complete, and I’ll have to make the drive north to see her when she flies.

I don’t really see that an owner can expect there to be no speculation or rumour! Whilst the rebuild is indeed being carried out on private property -it doesn’t mean that people will not ponder when it will be finished and what it will appear as.

And Phil/Daniel strikes again.

Same thing on the others forums where he posts unfortunatly…
Strange to take pleasure to disperse partial information and simple links on so much forum…

Sorry folks. Nothing more will be released at this time. The owner requires a bit of privacy and I trust that you all will have the patience to accept this and not continue with speculation and rumour. It is his PRIVATE property and that’s the way he wants it.
IF and when there is an official news release as to any progress then you will all be informed. In the mean time back off and let it all rest in peace.

Sorry Peter, but subsequent to when that old thread was first posted on the WONZ forum it was made clear to me that photos of this aircraft are not to be published, and so as I would never want to breach the wishes of my good friends at Avspecs, I have removed that thread you linked to from public view.

I am surprised at recent photos appearing as it is usually made clear to visitors that publishing photos of this project is not allowed. I hope a few people don’t spoil the great welcoming access to this hangar for the rest of the kiwi aviation community.

And Phil/Daniel strikes again. “we are told”…”we” meaning “people who visit Historic Australian Aircraft on Facebook”, I am guessing. This hardly news for those who use this forum as I’m fairly sure pics of TV959 at Ardmore have been posted here before.

Not for sale, but it will be going to the UK according to Glyn himself in the latest issue of Classic Wings. I don’t have it to hand – recently moved house – but he confirms the Flying Mosquito Trust will fund the remainder of the rebuild (3-4 years), it will fly in NZ for a further 12months and then move on to the UK.

On the subject of pics, I always like to ask an owner/senior hangar person if I may take photos, and if they can be put online. Generally the second is answered with the first. Images of TV959’s arrival in May last year remain online, so who knows!

The above is not a done deal, it will happen if negotiations are successful between Glyn & FMT, which at this stage are on track.

I spoke to FHC at around the time the TV959 photos went up on the forum, they knew about them, but decided it was pointless to have them taken down, however CW was asked not to report on it in the magazine.

I hate to be an “I know what you don’t know, so there!”
My son is the Senior Hand at AvSpecs so will ask him for an update of what, if anything, can be revealed about TV959 and the disposition of Glynn’s project. Stay posted.

My information suggests that Glyn Powells Mosquito is not for sale, despite what has been suggested.

It is TV959.

Dont be surprised if those pictures dont last very long….

As long as it doesn’t reference the identity of the airframe or the owner, they might well remain. I was visiting a restoration facility earlier this week where a project for the same owner is receiving work, and was told that I could photograph, but not publish, the project. The owner of the facility has been putting photos on his Facebook page of the project, without making referene to the identity of the owner, for quite a while now, and says he’s been expecting to be asked to take them down, but so far has not been asked to do so.

Apologies, was on wrong website. They (all of the rebuilders) have a close liaison with the NZCAA for the builds of all ex warcraft throughout the rebuilds back to flight, but I do not know how transfer of those approvals would be accepted in UK.
