Hi,
Any ideas? This seems to have the RAF Stores Ref No 6A/3660, but this number is allocated to the Gyro Unit Type 05A, which this object is definitely not. Does anyone recognise this or is it something which will remain a mystery?
Over to you …

Thanks guys, that’s fantastic. I certainly wasnt expecting it to be from a Wireless Set No 19, so thanks indeed for this.

Very sought after though !!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s a variometer for a wireless set no 19. It is used to tune the aerial length electrically to suit the frequency in use. Vehicle and ground use, nothing to do with aircraft!

I’m going to have a look, but there are certainly other pieces elsewhere. I just need to match them up!

Any chances you have the rest of the projector lying around in storage somewhere??
Looks like a nice piece with a little resto.

Thanks very much for the responses, TerryP in particular. You’re spot on! Thanks to your information I did some searching and found the attached image, which shows this object is clearly an amplifier (the compact version, I think) for a Debrie 16mm projector. I wouldn’t have known where to begin to identify this one, so thanks very much indeed for your help.

Its not some kind of old film equipment is it Ian??
Just with the Mic and Film knobs below the number. Also L/F H/F and what looks like P/O right at the end.
Looks more post war than wartime too.
Number more than likely a stores reference.
Look forward to hearing everyone’s views on what it is. Someone must surely know.

I think you’ll find that it is the mounting base for a 16mm cine projector. LF & HF controls being in effect the tone controls for the sound. It was called a Debris, a french name, though I’m not sure of the spelling. The curvature allowed for the optics to be tilted to suit the screen position. It was itself mounted on three heavy cast iron legs. Certainly still in use at Waddington in 1980 and probably long after that.

Thanks, it certainly looks like I misread the number.
Does anyone know what aircraft types this would be fitted to, or is it simply too generic to tell?

should say 6A/366, also fits the magnetic hand compass??
By: RadarArchive - 27th April 2012 at 13:22
Thanks for that which looks spot on from the bases I’ve looked at. Excuse me being obtuse, but what would the twin mounting be used on?

It looks like a twin mount for astro-compasses
