Not sure if I’m getting overly sensitive in my older age or what, but I found the news footage of the burning and exploding wreckage almost as it happened, a bit distasteful. The handling of the burnt hulk and turning over of the remains of the airframe just after 19 souls were killed seemed odd as well.

No, I don’t think you are getting sensitive in your old age, I felt much the same as you on seeing those pics. I would have thought that the wreckage should have remained untouched until an investigative team had arrived. Maybe things are done differently in Nepal.

This is always awful news to hear. RIP to all those on board. I’ll be paying close attention to this to find out more details on the cause of the crash.

This isn’t related to the highly diffcult Lukla airport but a scheduled take off from Kathmandu airport.
Initial reports from the BBC are that the pilot reported hitting a vulture.

Quite an older plane at twenty five years. Pilot reported a bird strike after take-off.

Just been watching about it on Sky News. The Do228 has a quite a good safety record from what I can gather, although some of those Nepalese mountainous airports, make operations in that region very risky at times, although the airport in question was not one of those. The fact that it happened so close to the airport, and the quite high number of witnesses, will hopefully mean a fairly quick answer as to why this happened. Condolences to all concerned:(
