Ooo please. 777 to ORD, but then bmi would suffer. Why don’t they just put a 777 on the ORD service now?? I hope MAN-MIA will happen. We do need a MIA link. And a secnond EWR link would be good. Probably a 757.

BHX is getting one so I assume MAN could equally pull it off. I’m annoyed that AA only announced the MAN/BOS route after I’d gone and booked a standard BA flight from LHR/BOS for my holidays! Was very tempted to go via KEF with FI 🙂 .

I’ve only been to STN once, not for the FRs and EZYs but for the likes of Air Berlin and Sky Europe, which you don’t get at other lo-co airports.

Exactly LPL has lo-cos, and with LBA and Robin Hood quite near, there is plenty of lo-co choice

If I want to go Easyjet spotting, LPL will satisfy my needs. I can also go spot FRs there as well of the aircraft I want which is 732s. What I meant by boring is it is not one I fancy!! I didn’t mean noone will fancy a day out there!!

Guys…..guys!!!!

Airlines and airports exist to move people and freight by air – not to provide spotters with better and more exotic numbers.

C’mon now, it’s a business and not a spectator sport.

Have you ever been to STN for a proper day of spotting? If not, can you back up why it’s so ‘boring’? I’m very sure that you’d spot a lot of things you’ll never get to see at MAN. Fair enough, we don’t have many ‘quality’ carriers, and that is something we truly do lack. But there are a huge amount of different lo-co’s here offering routes right across Europe for prices cheaper than you’ll find anywhere else in the UK. Just think how great that is for someone like me, or anyone else living in the local area. I doubt MAN get many of our rarer movements either. For example the An-124’s we quite regularly see, and the Saudi Arabian Royal flights that pass through frequently.

We’ve nearly caught up now with just one runway, I think that as soon as our new one is built, if not before, we’ll soon overtake in PAX figures atleast. That is unless MAN has a sudden wave of expansion, in which case we may find ourselves in the same position. But with our current rate of expansion being twice that of MAN, it would mean we will overtake somepoint next year. Sorry guys, the lo-co’s are biting back!

MAN is the best airport after LHR and LGW. STN is boring, as MAN do have more quality carriers. PIA nearly have more movments than BACX @ MAN 😀

That is still nowhere near the quality of MAN’s carriers. And that is probably not as good as those I saw in FRA which is a brilliant airport in my opinion.

Yes FR does get a bit boring after a while. But can you travel to pretty much anywhere in Europe for dirt cheap, from your door step?! 😉

Alongside Ryanair and Easyjet, we have a lot of other interesting stuff, albeit most of them being lo-co’s. Think, we see Norwegian Air Shuttle, Iceland Express, CSA, Malev, FedEx, Channel Express, TNT, Titan, NCA Cargo, JAL Cargo, Helios, Sky Europe, Transavia, Basiqair, Global Supply, Germanwings, Asiana, ELAL, Aurigny, Air Berlin, UPS, Onur Air, KTHY, Air Polonia, Martinair and several others that you will also see at MAN.

Also starting up new this year include Iberworld, Spanair, Virgin Express, North American Airlines, Zoom, Dragonair Cargo, Euro Atlantic etc etc. We have a lot to offer, and with about 15 new operators already starting this year, it looks set to continue.

I hope STN doesn’t overtake MAN. It must be boring seeing loads of FR planes!! At least we have a variety at MAN!! Even if BACX do have a fair percentage of movements!!

Hearing about all these masses of routes make MAN seem very busy. It’s hard to think it’s PAX numbers are almost identical to that of STN’s. Around the 20 million mark at the moment, and if Ryanair keep expanding at their current rate I think we may overtake to become the UK’s third busiest. Just have to wait and see……..

Well, Manchester to Miami is a bit of a stretch for a 757, so I’d imagine AA would use 767 equipment.

All a bit tentative at the moment, remember……. 😎

3 PIA at the same time on Manchester?

Nothing unusual about that at all. 4 at once is not unknown.

More AA from MAN????

The “word on the streets” up here is that AA plan to introduce a second daily ORD-MAN-ORD service in November of this year.

The new seasonal AA Boston service is also rumoured to be switching to Miami during the winter months, giving MAN 3 daily AA transatlantic flights.

Add to this a projected second daily Continental flight to Newark starting in October.

Getting a bit tasty………. 😀

When did UA pull out of GLA because I have no recolection of this service.

It was around 10 years ago at a loose guess ? I remember that service and other US services from GLA that were pulled for various reasons and not just the PAX loads. It only ran for a few years.

The UA service was one of a few that started from GLA after the goverment ended the protection of PIK’s status as Scotland’s only transatlantic airport in 1990 or 91?. Air 2000 were already operating out of GLA to Florida with a quick pit stop at PIK to honour the agreement.

Northwest to Boston was the only other service from Scotland to the US at the time, they quickly moved to GLA.
