Good Morning All,
Another identity puzzle.
This was picked on the beach in Kent just recently, I have no idea what it is but I assume that it is Aviation, Marine or possible Armament related. The only markings are the date 1944 and 29 and 17 (or 1Z) and a W. It is made of an aluminium alloy.
Any ideas???

Having some informal knowledge of ordnance, it reminds me of a fuze pocket transit plug.

It has NO 28 and what appears to be IZ,and would appear to have been painted red overall.

I found one of those at Wickenby in the mud ,it does not have the long cylindrical part however,I will check it out this evening and report back with markings, the Z does seem familiar however.

I think it’s the lower portion of a british bomb pistol. Z denotes a zinc base material. Having another look, it may be an exploder pocket which the bomb pistol screws into.

‘Z’ could be the German word Zünder (fuze)
and if it is ‘ZT’ or ZtZ – Zeitzünder (time fuze)
and from memory I think there is a German No29 fuse but I could be completely wrong which at home seems to be on a daily basis.

Looks like a pivot bolt. Not armament.

Yeah I thought it may be something along those lines. Out of my depth though.
I actually don’t have possession of the item but I will see if can get some pictures of the markings incase that helps.
Many thanks
