Passengers unhurt as plane skids off runway

Some 165 passengers and six crew have escaped unhurt from a plane that skidded off the runway at Dortmund airport after the pilot aborted take off, a spokeswoman for Air Berlin said.
“A combination of the snowy weather and the speed the plane was travelling at forced the plane to skid off the runway,” she said, adding there had been no need for an emergency evacuation and there were no injuries.
The Air Berlin Boeing 737 had been heading to Las Palmas.
Dortmund airport, in northern Germany, has been closed until further notice and passengers sent to other airports.
The pilot had decided to abort take off at the last moment due to a technical irregularity, the spokeswoman said.
Large parts of Germany have experienced heavy snowfall in the last few days, making travel hazardous.

An Air Berlin Boeing 737-800, registration D-ABKA flight AB-6777 from Nuremberg to Dusseldorf (Germany) with 133 people on board, veered right off runway 10 about 200 meters down the runway at low speed, only the left hand main gear barely remained on the paved surface. No injuries and no damages are reported.
Nuremberg Airport reported, that the airplane to Dortmund was taxiing to line up on the runway, when it skidded off the paved surface and came to a stop about 1.5 meters off the runway. The passengers disembarked via stairs.
Air Berlin reported briefly, that flight AB-6777 registration D-ABKA to Dusseldorf was involved, no injuries, no damages.
The airport was closed for about two hours and reopened shortly past midnight, after the airplane had been towed to a hangar.
