The item as attached has defied identification either as to function or aircraft used in.
We’re sure it is British because of the shade of green paint left on it and the fact that the two rusted studs are BA threaded.
It is shown with the plunger in it fully extended and when like that the spring steel item depresses a ball bearing through the wall of the casting to engage a groove in the plunger.
The aperture in the side of the casting is threaded but the opening at the head of the plunger tube is smooth both inside and out.
On the square plate as shown is stamped AW 4647 while on the reverse it has AW 4648 and R643-N9.
The plunger casing is 4inches long and internal diameter of 5/8inch.
One helpful (or not) item is that it is in New Zealand so that may indicate a type it comes from.
