:rolleyes:Working with a chap today whose grandfather worked on the construction of the M62 in the Burtonwood area, and he claims his Grandfather told him that there was a plan in times of emergency that the straight section of the motorway at burtonwood between the services and the first overbridge (1.2 miles) could be actually used as a runway for aircraft….
.I could only with great imagination that perhaps the US forces could forward their huge stocks of hardware to a potential european theatre very quickly if required via air……..But anyway I have told him its just yet another “Burtonwood Myth” that has been passed down from generation to generation……Have any of you learned chaps heard of this before or actually heard the story yourselves……:rolleyes::rolleyes:
