Another Spitfire flies…………..

Planes of Fame’s Spitfire XIX finally gets the wind beneath it’s wheels, and gorgeous it looks too…

RE: Another Spitfire flies…………..

The 2 props look awful but what can they do about it? I guess they will do somthing in the long term. After all are there not more Griffon engine spits in America than over here?

RE: Another Spitfire flies…………..

Just out of interst what did people like Charles Brown use in the days before they had gyro stabilisors and things like that?
Maybe he just hung on tightly when he was hanging out of the side of an Auster to capture a classic shot !
I think possibly if he just slowed his shutter speed slightly
he might be able to give the impression that the propellors are going round but anyway it’s a nice photograph – certainly better than none at all and I think that most people will appreciate his efforts.

The contra-rotating prop is apparently a temporary fit, whilst a certain Mr Hinton goes for a record attempt, or so I read a few months ago.

Looks nice 🙂

>Oh my God! Maybe the prop was actually stopped!!!!!!!!

Nope, when that happens there’s nearly always a tell-tale brown trail spreading out behind the aircraft.

RE: Another Spitfire flies…………..

Should have used a proper air-to-air photographer.

With the shutter set that fast (presumably to eliminate camera movement) the stopped prop(s) look cr*p.

Fit a gyro stabiliser to the camera and you can slow the shutter without losing sharpness.

Makes a really great aircraft look clumsy.

Lovely restoration, but that contra-rotating prop certainly takes some getting used to!
