just received the latest edition of DIVE and there is a write up about a recently discovered Spitfire wreck not far from Poole.
The engine is clearly in one bit with prop boss still attached and there is evidence of wings and armament and a couple of batteries nearby.
It would appear that the remains are from a Seafire and there is mention of a collision during a routine training flight.
Cant scan any piccies cos me scanner’s not unpacked yet.
Any one else heard about this ?

Yes, there are piccies of the engine, a wing in the sand and the guys who found it, and they are talking about the serial number you quoted

May I ask if there are any photos of the ‘Spitfire’ in the Dive magazine?
A Seafire, possibly SX244, is being suggested in some circles as the ID.
