It’s now 2 weeks since I was in Lanzarote, and I have finally finished editing the images from the trip. It was my 11th visit to the island, and I still hate coming home. So much infact, that I am already booked to fly back in December on GB Airways for 9 days! 😀
I have also been offered some bar work out there next Summer which I am seriously considering as a last bit of fun before settling down into flying school, and so you know what that means on my days off!! :diablo:
I didn’t get loads of shots this time, because I was with my girlfriend and spent much time hungover. But here goes!
Our outbound flight was on Thomas Cook from Gatwick, on 757-200 G-FCLE. A pleasent flight and a nice interior..

And short finals to ACE. My apartment was one of the white blocks just ot the left of the flaps.

And speaking of apartments, this was the view from my balcony (and yes I did take these sat down with a beer 😎 )

Some evening action coming right up….

Very nice pics indeed.
My mate wants to head off to Lanzarote for a week during the winter but I normally dont like sun holidays, Id rather spend a few days in a city but if spotting is that good I might be tempted.

Cheers for the fantastic response, glad you all liked them! It is really great for photography, and certainly the closest you’ll get to SXM in Europe (and much cheaper too…….my flights in December on GB Airways cost £86 rtn inc tax….and an apartment is £6pppn!). Maybe you should consider coming out when I plan to live there next Summer, then I could show you around etc?

Some very nice shots there Dan; GirJet 757-200 is my favourite.
Glad to see you got your priorities right…no 1. girlfriend, no 2. photography!:D
I never did realise that ACE was as good a location for aviation photography.
If there is such interest, perhaps we should arrange a forum meet/holiday out there?

Dan!
Yet another fantastic post from you.
ACE has always been a place that i have wanted to visit as the likes of SXM are far out of my reach due to other commitments. With your fantastic images from ACE it has given me more reason to book up and visit what looks like one of the best places in europe to photograph aviation
Nice one Dan 🙂

Nice one Dan, love the close ups of the Binter 734 and the White A310. The wife has just booked us to go to Tenerife at the end of September, now should I take my camera and face the roth of wife……………..hell yeah!!!

I was in Matagorda last year for a week.
I had a great time, great weather and obviously, smashing photos too!
Your shots are excellent and bring back
many happy memories for me, especially shooting on the
beach at sunrise.
A fantastic place!

Excellent pics – I like the Binter 737, certainly adds some colour to the Canaries 😀
Looks a bit of a squeeze on the TCX 757 (and the Thomsonfly for that matter). My only trip on TCX was to YYZ with 185 seats as opposed to the 230 they cram in for short haul. Amazing the difference a few inches can make 😉

Cheers!
Josh, they are called ‘Las Marinas’ apartments, but there are 10 or 15 other apartment blocks just as close to the action.
I am using the Sigma 50-500mm lense. The ones from my balcony were taken at around 300mm.
Ok Thanks.
Better start saving then:D

Great shots Dan.
Looks like a very nice airport. Just out of interest. What were the apartments you stayed in called? And what lense was you using from there?

Quite splendid, Dan. 😎

And then it was down to the touchdown zone, my favourite part of Lanzarote photography. It really is incredibly close, probably about as close as you’d ever get at an airshow. All of these shots were taken with my 18-55mm, a 737 side on requires around 28mm!

And finally, a perfectly timed touchdown. A moment later, he slammed down on the right creating a huge amount of smoke, and a few seconds later I was literally engulfed in this big white cloud of burning rubber. It sounds fun thinking back, but I could barely breath when it happened!

So that’s it, another week in ACE over. 🙁 Not long til I go back though, and weather for photography is better in December (less heat haze problems, less hazy skies etc). We flew home on Thomsonfly 757-200 G-BYAN. Here’s a quick one of the interior..

It’s nice and fresh, but having those pockets right in my face annoys me!
Cheers for looking.

I then also had one full morning down on the beach, which was quite a successful one. First of all, sunrise at the threshold…

Unfortunately, I only managed to make 2 trips round the corner to the perimeter during the week, because we had other things planned such as meals, and day trips etc. I managed to escape briefly for an hour one evening….

Last one of the day..
