Anson Cockpit drawings

Hi all,
Wondering if anybody can help me.
I am looking for drawings showing close up details of the cockpit area of The Avro Anson.
Does anybody know of good sites where I might be able to down load some pictures.
Thanks,
Drem.

The Mk1 Anson was similar to the Mk 2 with the early Canadian Ansons (1,528) being British built and Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah 1X and X engined and shipped over in about 1940. Some changes were made, mainly to keep out the Canadian cold. The instrument panel changed considerably when the Mk1 and Mk2’s were re-engined at Macdonald Bros. Aircraft Ltd. from the Cheetah to the Jacobs Engine to become the Mk3 and later the Mk4. If you are talking about later Ansons I can’t help you. If you are talking about 1940 Ansons I can help as I have 1940 one. RCAF 6012 ex RAF N9942 I also have pictures of early Mk1 cockpits and later RCAF Mk’s.

Graham – Slightly off topic, but do you happen to know when the metal framed control surfaces were introduced on the Canadian Ansons.

See my PM.

Twin stick cockpit

This is the twin stick Anson C19 TX183 (G-BSMF, but falsely marked as G-AKVW) in the Al Mahatta Museum, Sharjah, UAE.

Drem,
In view of all the information and diagrams sent since my last posting
you may not need my photograph. If you still want it would you send your email address to mgopayne@o2.c0.uk? It may take a few days to search more than 50 years of aviation clutter.

TerryP – was the Mk19 picture taken in VL348?

It’s 10 or more years since I’ve been inside VL348 but I thought the hangar structure out of the cockpit window looked familiar.

Footnote: Doh! Ignore my earlier ramblings I’ve just seen the annotation on the C.19 picture!

Oh for something better to do on a wet summer day in the UK!

What Mark and what details are you looking for?

Regards
Ross

Echoing what Ross has already said, it would be useful to know which Mark(s) you are interested in (and why, out of interest) ‘cos there were quite a few changes made from one version to another.

If it would be of any help, I have somewhere in my paperwork a press photograph of me sitting at the controls of G-AMDA, Skyfame’s Anson 1.

I hope this photo might be of some help? I took it this month on board the UK’s only airworthy ex RAF Anson. It was on the occasion of the aircraft’s return to flight for the first time since Oct 08.

Drem,

The team working on the Anson at Elvington has visited Newark to photograph the inside of Anson VL348 – not sure whether it was YAM or Newark that took the pictures!

Not aware of any drawings I’m afraid. 🙁

Drem,

not sure if you are after photos or drawings, but the two immediate sources that come to mind are:

A reprint copy of the RAF publication AP1525A, the pilots notes for the Mark I Anson, readily available from a number of sources., this has forward and side photos of the cockpit area.

http://www.wingsforfreedom.com/Shop/proddetail.php?prod=PN-ANSON

A CD copy of the RAF publication AP1525 the Operations and Maintenance manual which has photos and drawings of the steel tube fuselage frame and cockpit installation, this is readily available for sale on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Avro-Anson-Operation-Manual-RAAF-RAF-AP1525-on-CD_W0QQitemZ370229551972QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Collectables_Aeronautica_MJ?hash=item563366a364&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50#ebayphotohosting

Beyond that airframe drawings are understood to be available from British Aerospace? and photos of cockpits might be accessible from RAF Museum and IWM who both hold preserved Mark I examples.
