when i was in an atc gliding school (615 kenley) the goggles (winch driving) were supplied in a carboard box with a tin like this.
the goggles (mk7 or 8) were supposed to be used to protect the winch drivers eyes from cable fragments.
in practice the goggles were always snapped up by the gliding instructors and the winch drivers never wore them.
many years later when i flew aircraft that needed goggles i found they were very poor in practice,and a good pair of ski type masks worked very well.
the truth is the mk7,& 8 glasses looked the part,but were always very prone to misting up when you needed them most,mainly due to the glass being very close to the eye,and not having good ventilation.
our boxes contained both clear,and tinted lens,and i lent mine to the late neil williams when he needed a pair to fly the pup one day.

I had one in a small circular tin. It contained a cloth which left a film over the lens – transparent film which did not mist up when you breathe on it. Mine was Army issue. Whats in that one?

This one has the cloth under one cap and the special gunge the other end. I haven’t tried it yet!

part of standard kit for gas protection in WW2 – presumably issued to all services – including aircrew

There’s a pocket to retain it in the haversacks for both the tubed respirator and the light gas respirator

We used to be issued with these in the RAF for use on the S6 and S10 NBC respirator lenses (gas masks).
