I know it’s a bit late, but I’ve only just noticed that today’s Roadshow was filmed at IWM Duxford. One of Bader’s false legs is among some of the stuff they’ll be showing on the programme.Sounds quite interesting so have a gander if you can. It’s on at 6.15pm on Beeb1,less than 20 minutes from now!

Well i can tell you that their experts know nothing about aeronautica – last years they had a MINT RE8 prop and the expert reckoned it was worth about £100! – If that’s the case I’ll take two!

My father had a match box or cigar case signed by all living British aces in mar 1917 (i think). unfortunately it was stolen in a robbery. Would love to trace it…

A couple of years back Antiques Roadshow had a chap who produced an early pilots chronographic watch. Shuffling through the papers revealed an invoice for a repair with the owners name – T. E Shaw of Clouds Hill. Non other than T E Lawrence of Arabian fame!

I remember a couple of years ago doing a work experience visit to one of my students who was working at a London auction house. “I’ve got something you’ll be interested in”, said he, took me into a huge vault and pulled out Johnnie Johnsons log book, photo album and uniform badges. To say I felt honoured would be an understatement. To read the log book entries, to look at photos that I’m sure few have seen, and especially to handle his wings. Unforgettable. (Said student is now an internet puveyor of medals and memorabilia!).

Thought Barton’s sidekick was Snowy. Or was that the name of the sidekick in “Journey into Space”?
(We’ll be quoting the Hotspur, Wizard and Eagle next 😀 )

I don’t think I ever knew where he called home, but it is certain that living in a flying boat station, if he did, had no beneficial effect on his ventriloquial skills. I remember the waved fag too.

The Archers is OK. It’s what self-employed people like me listen to on the way home from the office – The evening edition I hasten to add. I used to listen to the Omnibus edition but they never once seem to get round to talking about Routemasters and Leyland Atlanteans, so I gave up.

Very “Educating” post there Moggy, not wooden in any way.
But you’re only officially “old” if you remember D i c k Barton.
(Edited to get around the censor astericking Mr Barton’s first name)

Spot on Mark (12). You must actually be a bit older than that really?
Interesting concept – ventriloquism on the radio.
When tele came along poor old Brough just couldn’t hack it, his lips were moving like David Beckham trying to read “Janet & John Go To The Armani Shop”
