The plane looks like a cross between an ARJ and a Dornier 328JET. I never really thought the ARJ looked good, but this is one sweet plane! I really hope Antonov manages to sell this plane more succesfully than other modern planes from the CIS.

if anything it is it must be the other way round, Antonov designs almost all have been of that High tail and thats what one gets to see on the dorniers and others ……
and neither does any design get similar when its meant for the same market, its the Aerodynamics of any that mostly makes any design similar, coz for the kind of aerodynamics, specs that u need for an a/c etc etc u may get ur final solution to a very very narrow band of design output and the reason y many will get to see design similarity of many designs
what do u guys think abt the Formula one designs??? ……… all copied from one anothers???……well now cos the design parameters given mekes the output in a very narrow band which maybe the outcome that many would be getting for the kind of thing that they wantted
and I hops the guys don make any dumb of themselves with theories of copies etc etc coz thats not the case, and would be good for bashing reporters looking for anything to fill in their @rse
and for those who stiil don understand , I’ll try to make u understand for u guys to have a personal touch …… just see ur own Body for example and compare it to the ppl around U!

It’s a development of the An-72 so it is considerably wider than the Dornier as well as longer. It comes closer in size to an ARJ-100. If anything this looks like a ARJ-100 with just 2 big engines instead of 4 hairdryers. The tail has been modified most of all, removing the rear ramp.

I think it looks more like a development of the An72/74 models myself, although it does seem to have the distincive “hump-back” of the Do328.
Having said that, the IL-76 has a “hump-back”, so it’s a known characteristic of Soviet designs as well.
Hard to tell from these pictures, but it looks a fair bit bigger than the Do328.
And I think you mean the Tu204, Sandy. 😉

I dont think its a carbon copy at all.
Compare the way the wings are angle down towards the ground with the an 148 compared to the more parralel-with-the-ground do 328 jet.
here is a pic of the 328 jet: http://www.haw-hamburg.de/f/news/fl/exkursion/DO328JET.jpgIm sure russian manufacturers dont just copy their western counterparts as well
Ok, so they altered it a little.
It still looks very similar to the Dornier, In as much as the An204 looks like the A321.
then again… if you think about it… if your designing a plane to serve a market its gonna end up looking similar to aircraft already serving it.

does anyone else think its a carbon copy of the Dornier 328 jet?
Why can’t the russian manufacturers come up with something of their own.
