Want to use my existing monitor, printer etc, and just connect to a new tower (don’t like laptops) but a bit of a technophobe and not sure what I should be looking for. Use the old one mainly for the internet, photo storage, documents, and few undemanding games like Combat Flight Simulator. I know a lot of people here are pretty savvy about this kind of thing, so any advice about where and what to waiting would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just to say thanks for all the advice folks, and to let you know I’m doing this on my new Zoostorm, er G350? Much faster than my old one, but still finding my way around Windows 7 (as opposed to XP) Bit disappointed that you can’t seem to download YouTube videos.

With that sort of budget, you might want to consider the Acer “compact desktops”.
We have one as our “upstairs” PC – an Aspire X3300 – and it’s not a bad spec at all for the price.
Not had an ounce of trouble with it since Day One.

Thanks for the replies, folks. Currently have a “Tiny” PC almost 12 years old, and getting infuriatingly slow, with a habit of just freezing for minutes at a time. Got a worrying feeling it may just pack up without warning. Thinking in the region of £300 for a new one; is that reasonable? Thanks again.
Hi. If it’s playing up now, I hope you have backed all your info before it finaly goes?.Just in case.

Hi. As it seems you only want the tower, have you considered having one tailor made to suit your own specs?.

Firstly, it is better if you buy from somewhere you are assured good support. I have used Novatech for many years and have had very few issues, but those that were, were all dealt with very promptly. I am sure this is true of many other suppliers too, but I can only speak with experience of them.
You might consider something like this for around your budget (Though you will need to purchase Windows as it is supplied wiothout an operating system in case you are a Linux geek – which I am guessing you aren’t?)

If you are not into the technical side of computers and may need help, find a
local independent shop. Somewhere where the staff know what they are
doing. Then if you do have problems, you can talk face to face with someone.

You can change the spec to suit your budget. Pretty good service too.

I’d probably be tempted to look at something (new) from ebay rather than places like PC world as you are going to get more for your money, and get a half-decent graphics card with it. Try to avoid budget processors as they are a false economy and tend to feel sluggish. What computer do you currently have?
