Any idea what this 'elapsed time' clock used on?

I have this set as being fitted to the VC10.

The Elapsed Time clock is fitted to the P1 panel just to the right of the RH yoke arm, next to the ADF instrument which would make sense.

A.P.112G-0805-1 gives the following description for, CLOCK, ELAPSED-TIME, TYPE N.L. 1395

Introduction
1. The clock, Type N.L. 1395 (Ref. No. 6A/5184), is an elapsed-time aircraft instrument and provides an accurate time datum when flying on a Q.D.R., thus enabling the various stages of a let-down to be accurately timed, or for a given rate of turn to be maintained for a predetermined time.

2. This elapsed-time clock is complementary to the time-of-flight clock, Type N.L.6520-VC (Ref. No. 6A/5183). The two clocks constitute a set.

I have this set as being fitted to the VC10.

I have always wondered what the VC in the part number stood for, perhaps I have just figured it out?

Ah, but the image you included is inverted – that sort of thing confuses people.;o)

Looks like a normal clock to me with the hours in the centre and minutes on the outer scale, not an ‘elapsed time’ clock.

‘Looks’ like it, I agree. Except when you start it, the outside is seconds, and the inner is minutes and runs (and operates) just like a stopwatch. And it states on the corroded label on the back ‘Elapsed Time Clock’ :confused:

Well, it’s got a 1955 date if that helps.

Looks like a normal clock to me with the hours in the centre and minutes on the outer scale, not an ‘elapsed time’ clock. Do not know what it was fitted to, but clocks of different makes are often interchangeable.
