Thought that this would be the best place in the world to see an aeroplane returned to its original colour scheme. Dont think any photos have been shown of this aeroplane since the paintwork was completed 3 weeks ago. I hope you all approve.
She now wears the colours of French Air Force unit GSRA78 with which she served in Algeria in 1960-63. A lot better than what was worn in the past!!
Happy Landings,
Martin

Went to Eggesford to fly Auster 9 on Sunday (someone has to) and read a list re G-VFWE and even asked the same question and from what I can gather (and this may be incorrect) is that next year it will be held on the Whitsun weekend (end of May) at Keevil.
I like yourself thought that Hullavington was going to the venue for last year (whimped out this year with the thought of sleeping in a wet tent for two nights!), so will ask again this weekend.

Just looked at their website and indeed you’re right, they’ve changed it:
G-VFWE 2006
Our Tenth Anniversary event should, if all goes according to plan,* be held At Keevil Airfield, Wilts over the Bank Holiday Weekend of Friday May 26th to Monday May 29th. This former RAF aerodrome (built in 1942) was originally intended for fighter training but was then redesigned to full ‘bomber’ status with THREE large hard runways. In the end it found diverse roles with the USAAF, Spitfire assembly and, most importantly, with Airborne Forces for Overlord and Market Garden. It is located just outside the village of Steeple Ashton about four miles east of Trowbridge, off the A430 Warminster-Chippenham for visitors by road.
* Final contracts have yet to be exchanged but the signs are very positive.
We are of course sorry to be unable to return to Hullavington as we intended after this year’s deluges but, despite everyone’s best efforts, it was simply not possible to fit in with the operations of the very active VGS Units. We remain hopeful of reaching an agreement for another year.

Registration is still the same and will probably stay like that. If we change it, people are going to think its another Broussard and therefore wont be able to appreciate all the hard work and effort gone into the new colour scheme.

Have you changed the reg as well? G-YYYY was always a bit of a mouthfull!!!

Looks great as it is too.
As you say it’s just the unusualness of the commercial scheme that attracts me.
What you really need is two!

Each to their own. If we all liked the same thing, life would be extremely boring 🙂
You’re not the only person to think this (or even tell us). It was unique and certainly eye catching, but as the Broussard lives with so many green and brown aeroplanes, it would have looked a little out of place, so it was green and nothing else.
Best wishes,
Martin

The second photo is the last time I photographed her as G-YYYY at Rendcomb in July 2001 in that ghastly St.Ivel scheme.
Sorry. I like it 🙂

So that we all know which Broussard this is, I have gone to my archives and scanned these two slides of c/n 208. Firstly, here she is in service with the French Air Force in June 1969 at Evreux. The second photo is the last time I photographed her as G-YYYY at Rendcomb in July 2001 in that ghastly St.Ivel scheme. How nice to see some research has gone into uncovering and restoring its original scheme. Can’t wait to see this, perhaps at Kemble Air day in June?
Albert,
Many many thanks for posting the photos of our Broussard. We only have found one photo of her in French service and that was when she was with the station flight at Tegel in the 1980s. So when the RAF were using Chipmunks to patrol our sector, going the other way was Broussard 208. As far as we can gather it was the only Broussard to see service in Berlin.
As to the St.Ivel colour scheme, well some people actually liked it painted as it was, but we felt that it would be more appropriate to paint her in her original colours. We arent great fans of day-glo, so opted for an earlier colour scheme and so she is now painted in the markings of GSRA78 in Algeria with whom the airframe served with from 1960 to 63. Information on French Military Aircraft is quite difficult to find and so we are so grateful to the countless Frenchmen (and ladies) who helped with the restoration of this aeroplane. It could not have been done without them (of particular help was a photographic walkaround of a preserved example that helped tremendously with the postioning of stencils etc).
Flying should start again in the next few weeks once the C of A has been granted and then she will be taken to as many events as possible (depending on how big our wallets are). G-VFWE at Keevil definately.
Again thanks for the wonderful photo and the kind words.
Best wishes,
Martin

I thought that someone would have worked it out…its the old Utterly Butterly G-YYYY, now based at Eggesford in Devon. Been flying there today and the latest is that she has been weighed (lost 105lbs in the repaint) and is now awaiting a new C of A.

So where is she now ??HEHE!

Is this G-YYYY now in more appropriate colours? Although i have to say i got quite found of the old scheme when she was with us at Rendcomb!

Thank you. Its taken nine months of sheer hard work by three of the aeroplane’s owners to see her in the colour scheme she wears now. Stripping took a few months and then all the painting was done outside on the few odd days that we call our Summer. We have to thank a lot of people notable nearly every French Historic Aircraft Restoration Organisation there is, as details on the aeroplane’s history were shall we say a little difficult to locate. Due to everyone’s hard work and enthusiasm, the Broussard is now correctly back in her original markings. All we need to do now is ask the French authorities for permission to fly her in the new colours (we dont see that being a great problem) and then obtain a new C of A. Next year the plan is to take the aeroplane to as many fly-ins as possible and then to France to see if your fellow countrymen think that we have done a authentic restoration. We hope everyone says ‘Oui’.
