I don’t believe the version of Monica in A.R.I. 5122 had an indicator – it produced audio ‘pings’ which were fed into the intercom system. Later versions used an Indicator Type 6 (which looks superficially similar to the Fishpond Indicator and is the same overall size). I’m not familiar with where equipment was located in the Stirling, but in the Lancaster this was located on the Wireless Operator’s table. This can only have been in the position subsequently occupied by the Fishpond Indicator once H2S MkIIB was fitted.

The Stirling AP has a diagram showing A.R.I.5122 – this is Monica.

Monica…what was that used for?????I have the dyno/ motor unit for the 1196,but nothing else…….

Don’t forget MONICA, also in the Stirling AP. If you’re thinking of parting with the Fishpond let me know. I could find you most of a TR1196, but no transmitter unit.

Thanks Andy,I think you’re right…I’ve been all through the Stirling A.P. And found nothing on the 1143… Only 1154/55,
TR9,1196!GEE and Rebecca.I’ve just got a Fishpond set and can find no mention of that either, although I know some aircraft were fitted with H2s….oh well useful as swops I suppose!!! Still on the lookout for an 1196 though….:D

Yes, I think that’s the picture!
The only hard information I have shows the Stirling fitted with the T1154/R1155 plus a TR1196. However it is certainly the case that the Lancaster was fitted with the TR1196 (which replaced the TR9), but this was then replaced by the TR1143, so I think it is quite possible that this also happened with the Stirling? I’ve never seen anything showing the A1271 fitted to either the Lancaster or the Stirling.

Further to this, I recall seeing a diagram showing where the A1271 was installed in a Mosquito, but for the life of me I can’t find it!

A.P.2276A has this to say about the A1271 –
Beam-approach amplifier for use with TR.1133, TR.1143, TR.1143A and TR.1430 installations.
The marker beacon signals are received on aerial system Type 62. They are detected by a diode valve and the modulation frequency is fed via the AF amplifier Type A.1271 to the input circuit of the intercommunication amplifier embodied in the VHF equipments.
