Hi all,
Was talking to a nephew of one of 487 squadron cew members today about the availability of a Lockheed Ventura or cockpit section thereof for display at our museum. Intention is to commemorate the May 3rd 1943 disastrous raid on the Amsterdam power station. Also during which Squadron Leader Trent gained the VC.
Several years ago flypast published an article about the surviving Ventura airframes that are in storage in South Africa (Swartkop?).
Does anyone of you have any inside information about these airframes still extant and the possibility to get one for display (or a cockpit section) for display at our museum in the Netherlands.
Also as the crewmember was the dorsal turret gunner, any info on the availablility of a Boulton Paul type C dorsal turret (same as used on the Halifax and Hudson).
This is a serious request and a very exciting one.
Thanks in advance for any information.
Cheers
Cees
