Any Italian fellow around?

There are certainly a bunch of VIP jets at Roma airport today.
I was wondering if we have some Italian mate on this forum…

Ahhh, not to worry. FR probably re-named Bologna “Rome North” for the duration. 😀

easyJet’s NCL – FCO flew into Bologna instead today due to severe traffic.

Ouch, quite a long way away for them then!!!

I hope british airlines flying to the closed airports are allowed an expention to the delay compensation rule.

this is clearly not their fault

Hasn’t one of the airports been totaly closed?

respect or no respect, thats gonna cost airlines money. There will be people here, there and everywhere expecting to fly there, only to be told no. They’ll blame the airline and compensation thus ensues.

Actually, they both did. I agree 100%. And the Serie A isn’t exactly selling out stadiums at the moment. That League is hurting, and they cancel a whole slate of games. Alitalia is on the verge of bankrupcy, and they close down 2 of their hubs. That’s gonna hurt big time.

The closeure of CIA would have a bigger effect on Ryanair as CIA is one of its biggest bases. So 2 days of clsed airports meens a huge backlog for Ryanair so it is in there best interest that they sort somthing out. Easyjet also have quite a big presence in Rome and no dobut the closeures will leave them with a backlog but perhaps one that would be easier to clean up than the one Ryanair would be left with.
ON positive thing here is that the heads of state flew to CIA and not FCO the busier of the 2. If it had been the UK they probably would have used LHR like they did when G.W.Bush visited.

Well in all honesty the event may be of NO relevance to somebody who has paid for a flight regardless of what it cost. The funeral is one of those things which will mean so much to many, and so little to many, lets face it if you’re from a different faith then it is of no relevance. How many people on here pay a lot of attention to the annual Hajj Pilgrimage to Mecca (apart of course from all the unusual aircraft colours and visitors all over the place), yet more people turn up there each year than will eb in Rome today.

So in conclusion I don’t think that either airline could be blamed for the cancellations and so wouldn’t be expected to pay out. But it would be good customer service to establish the priority of passengers and make alternative arrangements where necessary. I’m suprised FR have made such an effort!!

Of course, if people flew with proper airlines they wouldn’t have to go to CIA anyway 😉

agreed.

My point is some passengers will not care about the circumstances. You could shout it in their face but they will still blame the airline.

There are some that blame the airlines when their flight is delayed, cancelled or rerouted due to severe weather at the destination or airport of origin. This situation will be no different.

Agreed

But even so, there is bound to be the odd ignorant know it all pax who thinks that its is a world stopping tragedy that his/her £30 flight has been re-directed or cancelled.

I hope that people who are affected will understand. These must be exceptional circumstances and I dont think there will be much compensation payed out.
Ryanair and EasyJet who I would have expected to moan have kept quite and just accepted that this is an importnat event in history.

Agreed

Some of the FR flights have gone into FCO, but all the EZY ones appear to have been cancelled.
