Are there any airworthy P-51 owners/operators on the forum?
If there are and you would be interested in an exciting opportunity for you and your aircraft in 2013, can you please get in contact with me via PM.
Tks

What type of opportunity? Where in Asia?
I have been a volunteer at airshows for many years, and I know a few operators.
My GF is from Asia, it is not like the US or Europe.
PM me with more details, thanks.

Hi Geoff
Thanks for the comments. We are fully aware of what’s involved and do not underestimate the enormity of it. However, we would not be setting a precedent as shipping warbirds from one part of the globe to another for display purposes has to my limited knowledge been completed many times over the years. I guess part of it will come down to how much the appetite an owner has to do it.
As to location, well spotted. It doesn’t however mean the destination is Korea. 😉

Level of difficulty 3.8
…..it involves flying in Asia summer next year…..
Asian summer 2014 = Jan-Feb 2014 or Dec 2014? Most (almost all) of the P-51 warbird operators on the Pacific rim are in Oz, NZ or USA. For any of these to attend an airshow in South Korea (your location is the Land of the Morning Calm?), would require “packaging up” the aircraft for a sea transport trip, with associated reassembly, testing, etc. Not impossible as the CA-13 Boomerang being transported from east coast Australia to an airshow in NZ would indicate, but it is a BIG job (relatively). If you’re planning on the early months of summer in Asia in 2014, then that would make it even more difficult a task.
I’m not a warbird owner, and I’m not trying to talk you out of it. I do wish you well, but hope you understand the level of possible difficulty involved.

So which year are you talking about 2013 or 2014?

Thanks for the advice TA.
If the opportunity comes off and there’s a willing owner/operator/pilot then it is too early to post in the public domain hence the requirement for contact via PM. All I can say is the opportunity will be a first and it involves flying in Asia summer next year.

Martin, you do not state which part of the world you are in or where the P51 may need yo be.
Plenty of owners look in here but do not participate due to a number of reasons, also they are not members so cannot message you.
so a little more info on where in the planet this offer is up and remember if UK Europe a lot of vintage now go into winter maintainance.
Just a thought.
