One I took in September 1993, just prior to retirement, refuelling a 12 Sqn. Tornado.

A Victor performed a high speed flypast at The Fighter Meet, North Weald, circa 1985. I remember that the engines had been throttled right back as the only noise audible was that of the airframe and idling engines as it sped past (did not want to exceed limiting speed?) Does anyone else remember this event?
That vaguely rings a dim and distant bell, might have to ferret through some old tapes, I may have got that on video……

OK then Robbo lets make a change for 2005,
Duxford and Shuttleworth can have the jets and Brunty and Kemble will take the really old stuff.
Being serious Duxford and Shuttleworth are both high on my airshows 2005 list, as over the last year or so I have really begun to enjoy the sort of planes you get at these venue’s.
The great war display team in particular have really impressed me when I have seen them and their display at Wings and strings was bloody stunning.
As was the lancasters and the Mustangs etc etc.

Bloody rubbish. Oil tanker, that’s all it is. Give it guns, bombs, props and camouflage and maybe i’ll ooh and ahh at it. You sad cases.

There is also a good ‘I learnt About Flying From That’ in the latest ‘Aviate’ (military flight safety magazine) which describes how the crew discovered, as they were accelerating for take off, that they’d missed powering up the flying controls. The appropriate switches were selected and presto… This is not, of course a comment on the very professional standard of operations on the Victor fleet.

Did they fly sadly? Or did some of them fly happily? 😉

Andrewman
Well if you mean ‘ground to air’ here are a couple of low grade shots perhaps salved by their age.
The first taken at Lee on Solent coming over the fence circa 1959 and the ‘threesome’ at Farnborough circa 1958 a long way away on a standard lens.
