I believe that the right to settle in the UK needs to be earned, one needs to abide by the laws, dress code, and be able to speak the language, failure to be able to do those basic tasks means you lose that right… There is no legal reason a Burkha needs to be worn or religious either, so I would ban that too, do not like it fine, we will return you to your Country of origin where it is acceptable to you and your native population to wear it.

Even if having been granted citizenship or the right to stay/ work in the UK, break the law shoplifting, pick pocketing, pimping etc you would be deported back to your country of origin straight from your prison cell after you have served your sentence… Marital status or Human rights laws would be revoked in these cases, the people you stole from, murdered, raped, abused also have Human Rights, you didn’t consider theirs, so we no longer consider yours. Say 2 or 3 strikes and our out… No appeal.

Well apart from the fact that all this talk is overblown nonsense, we would be in far worse shape if we had not benefitted from the experise and knowledge and sheer hard work of thousands on immigrants over the years. And I suppose to put it in perspective the British influx of the Asian sub-continent, parts of Africa and Australasia and parts of the Americas was not entirely a bad thing!!

I’m not arguing at all, that all immigration has been detrimental to the UK, it would be foolish for anyone to do so. I have the utmost respect for those immigrants who have come here, often with skills that the country has needed, in some cases they have set up their own businesses, providing jobs for many people and paid their taxes. I fully accept your point that there has been a migration of numbers of Brits to the regions that you mention. But wether or not you feel that this debate is ‘ overblown nonsense’ IMO, the landscape regarding immigration is very different from what it was even 10 years ago, and more importantly, the publics perception of the topic is different also. The government needs to re-assure me, and others like me, that this situation is well under control, because from where I’m sitting, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Well I’ll save you the trouble – 13% foreign born at the 2011 Census. So it will be a few decades before, if ever, they circle your Alamo.

Well thats 2 years ago and believe me the amount of non uk nationals round here is higher.
Once born over here they are given all the rights etc quite correctly BUT i am not so sure they hold the UK in their hearts the way generations of nationals do.
If there was another WW1 and men were called to arms to defend these shores i’m not convinced you would get many marching shoulder to shoulder with you.
National pride becomes diluted to the point it really doesn’t mean anything in large areas.
Ask them the most basic question –why are you here ,the answer is because it is better than where they live now – not because they want to change to british etc they just want what is better.
The problem for me is when you have to change here to suit them, i e paperwork in multiple languages, street signs in foreign languages ,housing them, paying them benefits when they haven’t contributed.
It is not being rascist or non PC it is a fact that if you pour too much into a small space well, things overflow.

If you believe that, my friend, you must have already drunk that pint of Ardbeg ( see another thread)!! And just find out what percentage of the population of the UK comprises immigrants from the last 20 years, say.:)

Maybe, who knows? Since many of the nationalities mentioned in these posts have a legal right to be here, whether we like it or not, they are hardly invaders. And Custer, if I recall my history, was the “invader” standing against the native population – so your analogy is the wrong way round!;)

Charlie, the imigrants are taking over, slowly but surely, WE will become Custers Army, fighting the native population, just think about it…:)

Will it be OUR last stand?

I think to be realistic, any chance for a ‘last stand’ has long gone. And I think that, that is true of many different countries, not just our own. I’ll run the risk of being accused of being a racist here, but IMO, no politician had the wherewithal to stand up, and make sure that immigration did not reach the stage, whereby the numbers began to ‘skew’ the demographic make up of the country.

As I alluded to in my previous post, through this country’s adoption of many internationally binding treaties, and other ‘bits of paper’ with regard to immigration, and asylum seekers, there is very little that can be done now, without finding ourselves in contravention of a lot of them. This could result in us having to face sanctions imposed upon us by other nations as a result. It could be argued, that until the appearance of a politician, who is willing to tear up those bits of paper, and live with the international consequences of so doing, absolutely nothing will change. But then again, the last time that a certain European ‘politician’ from the 20th century did that, the fallout was catastrophic for the entire world. It’s an absolute rats nest alright, and that’s leaving aside the effects of globalisation, and the migration of population groups that, that generates, but I think that topic deserves a thread all its own.

Nations rise and fall, the West is in the decline, the East is in the Ascension, but they will fall, but not in our lifetime. 😉

Everyone’s a descendant of immigrants.

However, there’s a huge difference between a healthy, steady flow of people, and the stampede of immigrants we’ve had over the last few years.

The last thing we need now are a few hundred thousand more arriving.

I’m quite sure the ghost of Sitting Bull would agree whole-heartedly.

IMO, irrespective of whoever is responsible, the damage has already been done. It’s no good shouting ‘Close the Gates’ now. UK Governments of different political persuasions, have all presided over increased immigration, when it suits their agendas, economic or otherwise, and yes, that includes my ‘beloved’ Labour Party’ I’m afraid its now a case of put up, or shut up, or risk being labelled as something very negative and undesirable.

Yours Sincerely,

A lifelong (but now thoroughly disillusioned) Socialist.

Errr, Jim?

They aren’t native Californians, mate. They’re all descendants of immigrants.

Yes, I am aware of that, however, there are more, “From over the border” than Californians. But I know what you mean.:)

This has happened in California, where the Californians are now an Ethnic minority in their own State.

I may be wrong, but isn’t Leicester in the proverbial also?.

There is a finite state in the capacity the U.K. can hold and sustain. I feel very sorry for all those whoes Grandchildren may suffer in the future for what our Politicians are failing to do NOW, tomorrow will be too late.

Well I will be consistant. Kick out all illegals(don’t free them on bail to disappear)
Those foreign nationals covicted of crime should do their time and then be deported. Those without a job or qualification this country wants should be turned round at the border along with asylum seekers there are enough safe havens between here and eastern europe or bongo bongo land(as the late Alan Clarke called it) so why should we support them. Anyone of ethnic origin who wants to change this nation into a Muslim or other culture should also be shown the door. Let them live in a state that suits their ideals. No I am not a member of the BNP or the EDL just a British citizen fed up with the loony left or the PC brigade putting these people at the top of the benifit, housing and other pecking orders.

Come here legally, work hard,be law abiding, pay your taxes and don’t expect special treatment or play the race card I have no problem with you.I know many such people who I welcome to these shores and share my sentiments.

Well said
