Anybody had a Scary incident

I was flying from Las Vegas to San francisco in 1997 aboard an America West A320.
We were landing with about 50feet to touchdown when the engines spooled up and we took off at very steep angle.
The captain apologised saying we had a runway incursion and that we would have to go around again, needless to say more than half the the plane needed fresh underwear.
Anybody had any frightning experiences they can talk about????

Only dramatic experience ive had though not particularly scary was when I was coming into LBA in February and the fire alarm in the tower went off and we had to power back up and circle the airport once. Quite exciting.

Second incident involved a LAB 722Adv from CCS to LPB…
about 5 minutes before landing, my sister notices an orange glow out the window, which she tells me is a fire….to which i say not possible, its probably just a/c lights……at which point, i see a little flame leap from under the wing…and it started getting might hot inside the airplane…anyways, after landing, we ask about the little orange glow and any possible fire, and the crew tells us that none of this happens….of course, on our way out, we looked back at the aircraft, and funnily enough, the right side was slightly charred, and a fire truck was standing by…

had two really scary incidents:
1)
PTY-SJO on a LR 732Adv… we took off from Panama City/Tocumen airport in some heavy rain. About 5 minutes after departure, the aircraft turned sharply and the captain advised us that we were returning to Tocumen due to technical problems…..so we all assumed the position, and waited to land….as we were landing, i took a little peek out the window, and lo and behold, they had all their fire trucks out and chasing…after landing, we had apparently had a problem with one engine…
about 3 hours later, we take off again, this time with our problems “gone”……arriving at SJO, we were in the middle of the same heavy storm which had caught us leaving PTY, and looking out the window (visibility was very poor) i saw the tops of the trees immediately below the engines, at which point full power was applied (i had never seen an airplane rattle like it did that day) and we started a steep climb….we tried landing 2 other times with more or less the same result, except for the 3rd time, when a crosswind caught the airplane, the result being that we almost smashed into the ground….since the pilot simply couldnt land, we diverted to Managua (MGA), where we stayed until the storm had passed the next day…

I can honestly say i have never been scared in flight. I’ve been through some extreamly hefty turbulance, and a possably lightning strike, but i’ve never been scared

I once was on a BA flight and we got into horrible turbulence. I was in the bathroom and tripped twice getting to my seat, and right after I buckle up, my friend’s coffee spills and gets all over me, and and old lady nearby nearly faints. Then we take a 100-foot drop, and it’s over.

I can honestly say in all the years of travelling I have never once had a scary incident – even a VC10 I was in once going to Beirut had just taken off from LHR and hit an airpocket which gave me a fright but I did not feel in real danger. I did use to travel regularly on business with someone who was petrified of flying. He would sit the whole journey with his hands gripping the seat rests (no exagerration) between London and Edinburgh. I once said to him on a flight that we had been in more danger getting to the airport by car than being on the aircraft (BA757) his reply was that surely I had travelled on an aircraft that had at some later point crashed and that it was a question of bad timing and when. I said I doubted it. Now I can imagine that this would be the case with air crews but not so much with passengers. Anyway I did a bit of research and I had travelled on a BEA Vanguard (G-APER) 10 months before it crashed in Belgium killing everyone on board. I don’t think it proved what he was saying and I have felt more unsafe on a number of occasions travelling on the M4.

Back in April I went on our Rugby tour to Estonia, and on our return to LGW we were put into a holding pattern.
After some huge amounts of turbulance and some hefty drops in altitude the pilot kept adding the speed and slamed the Estoniair 737 into and almost burried the a/c into the runway.
I give the Capt all the credit he deserves, and he earnt his wages that day

Whilst eating my meal in the cruise returning from Nice to LGW I noticed some wisps of cloud go passed the window. This was accompanied by some light turbulence. This seemed a bit odd, so I looked out of the window & got a nice view of the rear of the 757 who’s vapour trails we had just clipped. He wasn’t that far away. I like to think the guys up front were aware of his presence……..

I also banged my head on a K8 glider canopy landing it hard. The CFI was the most scary bit about that one though.

Spanair MD80 i think, or Iberia 717… Returning to LHR from Alicante, plane suddenly dropped. Never found out what it was, either an ‘air-pocket’ or possible TCAS told them to dive, not sure. The guy behind me broke his arm, and the stewardess had her leg crushed by the trolley which went flying down the aisle and into her.
Another one I know of was on of my mates was flying back to Hong Kong from LHR (or vice-versa), and the engine caught fire on takeoff. He said the entire inside of the aircraft went bright yellow, and they abandoned the takeoff andhad to jump off shutes at the side of the runway!

AIH MD-82 1994. Tenerife to LGW.

At Tenerife, they were filling the aircraft up with fuel. But somebody didn’t conent the pipe to the wing properly… and the petrol went everywhere! Over people luggage and all over the aircraft! What a smell!

Anyhow, firbrigade came out and dowsed the aircraft off. 30 minutes late for dept. we were finally on our way. Now alot of people were wearing clean underwear about 1:30hrs earlier… but it was about to get dirtyer!

5 mins into the flight the captain came over the PA and said… “ladies and gentlemen, we have a slight technical problems at the rear of the aircraft”…(long pause)…”Dinners will be delayed to those seated at the rear, due to the overs are suffering from a technical fault, sorry for the inconvienence!”

Blimmin heck… I thought he was gonna say that there was an engine on fire from where the fuel got all over em!

Phew!

A few people including a memeber of the cabin crew were seriosuly injured. Everything for those few seconds went haywire….cups, trays papers flying everywhere….lukcy most of us had our seat belts fastned.

The worst for me was on finals into PMI on a Skyservice A320.I was sat on my crew seat down the back and we were at about 150 feet on a normal approach all of a sudden the right wing dropped and i mean it dropped then full power was applied the a/c then sank very quick and we slammed down on the tarmac. After talking to the pilots they told me that the separation after the 757 that we had been behind had not been enough and we got caught up in thier wake. The f/o later told me thats as close you get to a crash and walk away ? Both pilots were shaken up by this.
