Anybody have any E-2D updates?

I’ve googled and searched but can’t find anything new for almost the last year (Since July of 2006).

Is it still “on time?” and “on weight?” When is first flight? Any software issues? One thing I did uncover is that LM is doing some of the radar/electronics work….I wonder if they are “double dipping” from anything they may have learned electronically on the F-22 program.

Surely there must be some members of the Grumman mafia lurking here.

TIA

Thanks to all who have responded.

Its a good point that there are bugs that must be worked out once the systems are integrated, but gosh, 2011 seems a long way off. Imagine how much the state of the art in electronics will have progressed in that time, not to mention how much Chinese capabilities will have grown.

It is much more a matter of testing and de-bugging the new radar, data-links, operator interfaces, and signal processing avionics than anything to do with the airframe.

Yes, they do need to make sure their wind tunnel etc. work was correct for the new engines, propellors, and radome, but that shouldn’t take long.

I know that all of the avionics have been bench-tested, but for some reason modern computer-managed electronics always seems to generate lots of bugs and flaws after being installed in the airframe.

They are clearly planning a very thorough testing phase for what must be considered a mature airframe design when they say that it doesn’t enter service until 2011 😮

There isn’t much around atm, it’s rather a quiet project compared to the likes of the F-35, F-22 and the SH, but here’s a little something for you.

I wonder if the USN has any major upgrades planned for the C-2 COD’s?
