I was looking at this in the ‘Airframe Assemblies’ hangar at Sandown.
It looks weighty and enormous. In fact it is of quite modest weight and clearly cast in magnesium alloy, but what is it?
The posed leg gives it scale.
Best guess is a roll over protection hoop from a Fairey Firefly. Can anybody confirm.

Looks like it could be a piece of a canopy assembly as magnesium alloys are quite often used in these parts due to their modest weight.
