I’d never knock Atlantique, Mike Collett who runs it is a true stalwart of UK aviation and puts his personal money (remember he owns the company) to the sort of use that we all would, given the chance.
But you and I have paid for that DC3 airframe many times over through the years, in the form of the money that the DoE paid to have the Atlantique DC3 fleet standing at 30 minutes readiness for pollution control flights.
I think it is acknowledged that the actual dispersant spraying achieves very little other than to look good on the TV news and convince we poor taxpayers that the government that we elected is doing something instead of sitting with its thumb up its collective bum (Unwanted thoughts of ‘Two Jags’ nether regions just floated through my consciousness – pass the barf bag QUICK!)
Having said that, we actually paid for all the MOD airframes in the first place, then lent them to the RAF / Army. Be nice if we could have our own property back.

yehi posted a report over onmn afm about 3 base up fpr closure (around xmas new year time). brize, lynam and one of the conish bases were discussed, the outcome was the cornish one would be kept. p[ossible the news was designed to soften the blow by cutting less than they leaked.

There is alot of misinformation going around about cutbacks. I heard they are going to close Brize….hmmm the RAF’s largest base and their going to close it……I don’t think so. Why couldn’t the money from the appualing dome, or that even worse bridge be spent on something proper.

I’d heard that Lyneham was going to be closed due to Govt cutbacks,so will the Dak go on display there at all?
