Anyone got a prop blade they don't want?

This is another plea for help I’m afraid. The Mosquito memorial at Milton Keynes (see separate thread), is being unveiled in September. The sponsors getting the plaque made, want to mount a propeller blade on the memorial. One was recovered from the site in December, and was taken away with other parts by the digging team from a nearby museum.

Regrettably, despite several requests to them to be kind enough to return it and helps us honour the lost crew in a suitable fashion, they do not respond, so it looks as though they do not want to help out.

So, can anyone give me a lead on a suitable prop blade that we could get hold of instead please? Obviously it would be too much to expect another Mossie blade, but anything appropriate would do.

Many thanks for any help.

Well done to all concerned with this! Another victory for the ‘small museums’ (non national collections) and individuals pulling together for the benefit of all. If we could all do this all the time…..

This might seem a bit nieve but I will ask the question anyway.

Are John Lewis helping with any of the funding seeing as it on their land as such?

Brian.

Thanks to the amazing generosity of the RAF Millom Museum, a Mossie prop blade is now safely in the hands of the people constructing the memorial. The unveiling is on 21 September, and includes a “missing man” fly past of four Bulldogs, courtesy of the SkyHawks Formation Team.

I think it is wonderful when the forumites come together like this to make something happen.

Thanks guys.

Guys, that’s just fantastic of you all. Yes please is the answer; we have about ten weeks to the unveiling ceremony. Please send me a private message so that we can sort out details.

Many thanks again.

We only have one Mossie blade and require it, so MerlinPete if you want to drop it of at the museum when down this way I can arrange for it to get to MK if this is agreeable with Steve Bond.

Thanks for that, I will be down at Grange Over Sands in two weeks, but could arrange to bring it sooner, especially if there`s a chance to look round the new exhibition 😀
Unfortunately I have just come back from Duxford and will not be there again until mid-August, typical!
I am away until Monday and will pick this up again then, if required.

Its a bit arty farty and rather pricey

Should have an answer on the prop in the morning, failing that MerlinPete could send his down to Milllom and we can then pass it down the country via contacts.

. . . . If all else fails:

Appeal to his better nature and he may knock a few quid off it. . . . after it fails to sell on eBay

Yes please Denis! Time is not on our side with this one, so the sooner you can help with that the better.

Many thanks.

Many thanks again; it is great to see people rallying round. If I may, I will see what the Millom come up with first, and go from there.

Much appreciated.

I have a suitably bent Mosquito blade which you can have if Millom cannot find one.

Fair enough Steve, still think its jolly sad – but not without precedent 😡

Anyroad, Think RAF Millom have this covered, failing which let me know and we will see what we can do.

Many thanks indeed for the replies. Yes, you are correct with the organisation that carried out the dig, but they have absolutely nothing to do with the memorial, that is John Lewis and the Milton Keynes Aviation Society.

Obviously a Mossie blade would be fantastic; if there is no hub that is not a problem at all. Failing which, I would certainly take up an offer of a suitable blade, but metal rather than wood, since it will be outside.

Cheers

Steve
