Anyone have any Bleriot XI drawings ?

Some one has asked me if I can find some manufacturing drawings etc, of the 1909 Bleriot XI for him.
I have sent him copies of the ones I have, but they are in the main incomplete, & more recently drawn, they are also from more than one type. These are pretty much the same ones that are available from WW1 Aero.

Can anyone please tell me if they have, or know where better drawings can be acquired from ?.

Thanks for all the info guys, I have now ordered the books for him.

I hope he does build one, though I won’t exactly be holding my breath, as over the years I have helped a number of people & groups find info etc for planned projects, & quite a few have not got much beyond the planning stage, before being shelved.

Hi Bob,
yes there was all the info I needed in the book, I had to do a few mods to fit the rotary engine but am pleased how it turned out.. Best part was sitting in it when assembled, made you think how brave the early aviators were. pity it wasnt to airworthy.

Hi Ken

I hope you remembered to play the theme tune from THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN whilst sitting in the Bleriot :D.

The chap who intends to build one, is planning on using aircraft approved material as there is not too much dfference in price “he must be going to source his timber from a different supplier to me then LOL”.

I contacted him the other day, & asked him what his intentions are, he said that if enough info turns up, then he is going to build it to an airworthy standard “but did’nt say if he intends to fly it or not”.

I have also put him in contact with the company I use to get wooden parts cut/shapped by CNC, so he should be able to get on with it, as soon as he has enough info etc.

Aside from the Smithsonian book on the Bleriot, are there any other regarding these aircraft that anyone can reccommend? Would like to learn more about this very important aircraft.

Thanks, Rob

There are detailed drawings and building instructions in “Building and flying an aeroplane” by CB Hayward (first published 1912) which is now available as a print on demand book.

Original copies can be found on abebooks.co.uk http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/SearchResults?an=hayward&bt.x=0&bt.y=0&sts=t&tn=building+and+flying+an+aeroplane

Hello Bob,
Tell your friend to look for a copy of the book…Bleriot Xl, the story of a classic aeroplane. done for the National Air and space museum by the Smithsonian institution in 1982. the isbn number is 0-87474-345-1.
there are some for sale on Amazon now (nothing to do woth me so should be ok for forum rules) see…
http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Bleriot-XI-Aircraft-aircraft/dp/0874743451
Its a great book full of information and drawings which are enough to build a replica from. Mike Beech told me he used this book when he built his.
Hope this helps

Mike Beach told me that he had tried to fly the Bleriot once. But said it was very dangerous. It wasnt handling very well on a hop. So that was that. Mind you he always said ‘ Very dangerous’ to many things.

I take it the drawings you have are the same as the one’s listed on WW1 Aero ?
You could try Brooklands, they have the Mike Beach built example so may have the drawings he used ??

Is it going to be a flyer,or static Bob?

Not too sure, I’ll have to ask him.

All I know at the moment is that he wants to build one.

Many thanks for your leads, unfortunately the Earlyaviators Bleriot is of modern construction, & it was the guys building the Anzani’s etc who I acquired the drawings I have from, & they are very incomplete etc. I haven’t tried the other chap yet, but will do so in the near future, so hopefully the guy who is after them will be able to start building one soon.

Here: http://www.bleriot.nl/page7.html

The guy built a flying replica AND a model (well: 1:3 scale hardly counts as a model!)
