This one went into the English Channel, so i would have to get my diving kit on for this one! 🙂

Im currently researching the pilot Vincent Parker who after been captured by a german E boat would end up in colditz to return to Britain and die in a training accident in Northumberland.

without getting a copy of the orb i was wondering if anyone knew the aircraft code.

😀

The fuselage cockpit construction number of R6915 may help you.

Reported as 6S-80914.

Logically R6985 should be in the region 6S-80962

Have you dug up the remains?

Well AZ was 234 Sqn and AZ-H was Serial N3277

This is a well known Spitfire captured by Germans.

15th August 1940

1815hrs: Cherbourg. Spitfire N3277. 234 Squadron Middle Wallop
P/O Richard Hardy Taken prisoner. (Forced landed on beach after combat over Channel off Swanage)

This Spitfire was later tested at Rechlin

Apologies for the hijack of this thread

I dont suppose anyone knows the serial number for spitfire R6985 234 Sqn lost also 15th Aug 1940 by Vincent Parker?

would anyone have a copy of the sqn orb for that day?

cheers

Note the damage aft of the cockpit caused by explosion from inside- deliberately destroying what the RAF considered to be electronics which should not fall into enemy hands.
