As you may be aware, I’m on the greek island for 2 weeks at the end of july, and hope to have at least a good full day down there at the airport.
Does anyone however know what days are good for traffic? Last year I went on a friday and seen nothing of interest. I’m quite hoping to catch a Novair A330 and a Condor 753 so any ideas???
Cheersin advance,
LGKR

RE: Anyone know the best day f
Sorry, it’s not the 753 that’s featured in the ads, it’s the 763. I just saw the two overwing exits and thought it was the narrowbody (it was just glimpses of parts of the a/c).

Apologies Bhoy, Condor seem to be jumping the gun! JMC aircraft hit the paint shop in November.

I’m not sure about Corfu, as I’ve never been there. However, when I was on Rhodes 3 years ago, Thursday was a haven for Condor, Hapag Lloyd, and Aero Lloyd. Sunday was primarily Premiair and Novair. Each Tuesday there was an El Al 747-200. That’s what I can best remember off the top of my head. I was an idiot back then, and did not take photographs. As far as Condor goes, I’ve already seen one of their 767’s in Thomas Cook colors.

There’s been an advert on German tv recently fearuring a 753 in TC colours.
SO I’m convinced at least one has been repainted.

Condor, JMC and Sun Express (in Turkey) do not take on the Thomas Cook identity until this winter. The only aircraft in TC colours are the 5 ex-JMC A320’s operating as Thomas Cook Airlines in Brussels.

T5 – the likes of the smaller Boeings and Buses appeal to me much more than watching huge heavies arrive and depart. I dont really know why, possibly because I’ve nearly always flown the 757 or wotever when I’ve been on my travels.
Don’t get me wrong though, flying on the 744 was a fantastic experience but i just so prefer the smaller aircrafts – especially those operated by IT Operators!!!
Just thought I’d argue my case as to why I like Corfu for its smaller traffic as opposed to seeing large heavies 🙂

RE: Anyone know the best day f
supposed to be:
“Anyone know the best day for traffic at Corfu Airport”
The airports name is Ioannis Kapodistrias – after a greek politician I believe ?!?! – “A moo point – like a point given by a cow – it doesn’t count for much!!”
Well I’ve been there about 8 times now, or maybe this year is the 8th cant really remember 🙂 I’ve always flown in and out on a Monday (British Day??) with the airlines Caledonian, some Belgian DC-10 ad-hoc operator (any help???),Ambassador x3, Air 2000 x2 and JMC. We are infact travelling on JMC again this year. Strangely all flights (except the 1 DC-10) have been 757200 operated, as is this years JMC so I am led to believe

Your name hasn’t come out properly, all its says is a greek island begining with’t, perhaps Thessaloniki?
Anyway weekends aren’t always good, Palma is best at the weekend but Arrecife is better on Thursdays, Sundays and Tuesdays, dead quiet on Sat.
Anyway, best thing to do is to go to airliners.net and see who has taken a few pictures there and e-mail them, you may even see a pic of a novair A330 and / or Condor 753 with the date already written in, you can grad your calender and see what day it was. Its what I usually do and most photographers are happy to respond to the requests.

Condor are now called Thomas Cook, and I think part of their fleet has already been repainted.
It will, however, still say “powered by Condor” on the fuselage.

Well it depends what aircraft/airlines you want to see.If you want to see German airlines then its going to be a different day to lets say many of of the British airlines. However,I think the weekend is always a good day for charter flights to these type of places, though i’m not sure but this is what I found in Malta.

It’s a shame because islands such as those belonging to Greece are made mostly for tourists and people don’t necessarily come half way around the world to visit them so you are restricted to the slightly smaller aircraft and dont get to see the finer B747s, B777s and A340s. That’s my opinion. Anyway, have fun… get some good shots for us to enjoy with such a beautiful backdrop!
