I’m looking for a better picture of a zap that was once on a Belgian Fouga. Not much left now as you can see and all I’ve got are 2 very small blurry images of it . I’m guessing UK or German AF as that is where most our zaps came from. Looks kinda like a wing with legs or something?

Sorry whats a stampes
The Stampe et Vertongen SV,4 biplane. An aircraft designed in 1933 though mostly built post-war. Popular for aerobatics and used by the Rothmans team for a while. Not as fast as the jets mentioned in this thread but much, much nicer looking ?

The Penguin Airways zap was Visiting Aircraft Servicing Section (VASS) Raf Laarbruch. I was there 80 to 83 and was SAC in charge of zapping for a couple of years. The mural Jase talks about was done about 82 by an Clive Gerard (bombhead) AKA the Frog. in 80 we had 4 F6 hunters that were replaced by 4 T7 and T7A,s.

Sort of reminds me of the 6 sqn badge with the Eagle and the snake.

X-Servicing/Base Flights.
Hello Fouga(Nasty Loud Little Things),
Most if not all of the NATO bases in Europe had a Base flight(VisitingAircraftServicingSection). In time of war it was our job to service any of a range of aircraft in 1hr and send them on their next sortie.Laarbruch did mostly Photo aircraft while I was there but the main ones were.RF4C/E,FGR2,Harrier GR3,Mirage F1CR,Mirage111/V,F16,Tornado and Alpha Jet. This was part of the Cross Servicing programme which meant we were treated to Ample Gain Meets at least once a year. The various courses we went on were some of the best experiences of my career and an excellant insight into the other NATO(and French) Airforces.

So this is the logo of the base flight from Laarbruch? We had some other Fouga’s stenciled with the “Beep beep” cartoon character. That was base flight Oldy (Oldenburg). What exactly was a base flight? Any more info?

Hello all,
I recognise that zap very well and am even guilty of a few myself-mostly on Mirage Vs and a few Tooms . It comes from Vass/Station Flight RAF Laarbruch BFPO43. Used to cut them fom card using a master. The motto was “all flap no fly”.Dates back well before the Falklands as we had a mural with above motto and penguin shaped Hunters, which I believe were used by the station flight back in the 60s………….

Haven’t I seen similar cartoon penguins on Stampes – is there likely to be a connection??

The stencils should be between 1977-1985 somewhere.

Also looking for the meaning of this zap. Many Red Devils Fouga’s were zapped with it. I think also in the UK?
