Anyone Know What This Is?

An old metal file index drawer sets and open shelving. Its a mixed set that stack one on the other, 8 sections in total, in drab olive green, all metal. Approx 36in wide, 11in deep and 64in total height. It was left in the garage of the house we bought and I would like to find it an appropriate home. Someone suggested it might be ex military and even American as we have had many bases in East Anglia over the years.

If it’s U.S. there should be a stamp or decal somewhere on it giving its nomenclature and specifications….something like “File, 36 drawer…”, and a stock number.

Just a guess: it’s WWII or soon after.

Trucks, radios and aircraft engines were the main things – along with tons of tools and aircraft spares, jack windsor.

I know a chap who used to be involved with doing it.

Thanks for the suggestion – I will try that. It would be nice to put it to good use rather than scrap.

If it’s ex-US WWII, maybe Bottisham airfield museum could use it?

Almost certainly ex-US surplus, sold off in huge amounts after WW2 and into the fifties as the bases closed down.

Lots of stuff went down mine shafts, other large holes in the ground and into scrapyards.

Looks like the green metal version of several small plastic cabinets with trays I have on my work bench to keep spares, small paint tins etc. in with the front of the little drawers appropriately labelled.
