I think it’s diverted about 3 or 4 times since PIA have started the route. Not even close to 50%. Rumour from someone close to PIA is that they are very happy with the route and would like to operate daily because the pax like to fly from their local airport and not Manchester.

If true, very good!

What are the price differences like between LBA and MAN? I’ve always found MAN to be cheaper…

Wouldnt suprise if the LBA route was axed.

Yeah, that’s why they are starting an extra flight a week, and all the flights are full….. It might have diverted a few times, but so have other aircraft the same night, and it certainly isn’t 50%!

It would be interesting to see what happened if PIA disposed of the A310’s, though.

From a number of friends, the ISB route is full most of the time, so why would they wanna axe it?

Is that why its gone from a 747 to a 777 to a A310 :p 😉

Danny

The 747 was banned from British Skies because of safety reasons and the A310 is a random event. Bring back the PIA 1-11’s:D

Manchester is a PIA magnet, it’s the biggest hub outside Pakistan. We are also starting to see the A310 more often now as well.

Well they divert 50% of the time.

You got the figures that show 50% of flights divert to MAN?

A good number of passengers travel down to Manchester form the Bradford area as well as a small number of other areas to commute home to Pakistan, so having flights from Leeds would be very viable I would have thought.

The first Concorde to land at LBA was flown in by Air France in a 40kt crosswind. The Captain described it as interesting.

Windshear.Aircraft can land with up 40kt’s crosswind but windshear is created in gusty conditions so the approach is too unstable.

It varies from aircraft to aircraft… 40 sounds very high for most a/c though! Most jets have an upwards of 35 Knots.

…or maybe it just didnt like the look of LBA and decided to go elsewhere?:D:diablo::p

Sounds about right! 😀

High winds, BMI from Heathrow G-RJXK went to Manchester aswell.

Danny

More, in particular, crosswinds; wind direction veering from 200 to 290 degrees, 20 or so knots. Doubt it would be pleasant to land!
