anyone play CS?

i have this little problem playing CS, as now that i have ‘upgraded’ to using steam, it appears that the CD i downloaded before doesnt work no more.

did anyone else have this problem? do i have to download a new CD or can i upgrade my old one? (just asking cos i have a 56k which takes forever to download sth like that).

cheers.

thanks for the info plawolf.

It should also be mentioned that for anyone that has a low spec computer, counterstrike will run just fine on a 400 mhz with on board graphics. Theyve done a really clever job texturing and animating this game, so you would almost never guess it has low poly graphics.

google- The only thing that makes the the G-36 looks distictive is the handle/sight frame on top. If you were to remove that at put a scope on it, you would be hardpressed to tell the difference between the SG-1

mixtec:

steam CS is just CS played using the new steam engine developed for HL2. the graphics are much improved and the manue system much refined to make it alot easier to find ur faveraye servers with 2 new weapons and the tactical sheild.

a particularly useful new addition for 56k surfers like me is the ability to choose the zones where the servers are located, so u can quickly sift out the quicker servers and dont have to connect to a server halfway across the world.

anyhow, there are much much more good servers and many more players using steam then the original. that was the main reason i converted as i was sick of spending hours searching for good servers.

if ur a 56k user like me, dont even think of downloading it, get a friend with braodband to download it and burn u a copy or go and buy the new CS single player game. the game itself is crap, but the steam tech isnt.;)

“Innocence does not become you…Mr Pizza!”

was just scraping by until the subject got back on track. hell, if i had not kept posting, this thread would probabaly have been relegated to the 2nd or thrid page, and all the on topic dicusions that are going on now might never have happen.;)

“The tac shield is annoying at times, but in many cases it’s the only answer for AWP hos.”

yeah supose, but in some maps like aztec, if the CTs are orginised with using the sheild, then the only answer will be an RPG.;)

personally, i prefer the weapons limitations like restricting the sniper rifle on some maps instead of giving the CT sheilds.

I don’t know about setting up a server with 1.6- with 1.5, it was pretty easy.

Check steampowered.com’s forums for help.

HK G36 looks nothing like the HK SG-1 auto-sniper!

They do make a XBox version of counterstrike btw.

Im actually not that knowledgable of the technical details behind CS, so can anyone explain what all this steam thing does? I understand its just supposed to update counterstrike automatically, but the installer alone is 350 mb. Does it really change the gameplay of CS that much, because I like CS as is. Also can anyone tell me how difficult it is to run servers, because alot of servers seem highly modified. Do all the new maps come with steam?

yeah, i play steam as well. so what do u think of the new combat sheild for the CT teams? i dont like it much as it gives the CT too big an advantage on some maps.

anyhow, i was suprised that the Ts werent given new toys to play with. one weapon i would love to see is the RPG.:D sure they can tweek it to make it less powerful then in real life so it doesnt become a superweapon, but it would still rock!

“Since XBConnect makes your XBox think it’s conencting to a system link game when in fact it’s connecting over the internet to other XBoxes near and far, I wonder how difficult it would be to set it up so PC Halo players could combat XBox Halo players?”

well i think its more for game playing reasons then technical difficulties as mixtec already pointed out that it is possible to link consuls with PCs online.

the simply fact is that u XboX boys with ur doggy little control consuls would just be raped by the PC guys with mouse power in a FPS.

Its already being done with Final Fantasy XI, this is a cross platform online multiplay game that allows Playstation 2 players to play against PC players.

I’m not sure how to do it for 1.6, so try www.steampowered.com

You can check through the forums there.

There are definately other good online multiplayer shooters out there most noteably Battlefield 1942 and Ghost Recon. But you just cant beat CS as the ultimate test in shooting skill and tactics.

BTW- Does anyone know how to configure a mic to CS? I got the mic settings on in the game, but it just wont pic up either my sound card or on board sound.

Yeah, the Heckler and Koch sniper rifle.
