Anyone recogise this particular jet and what its firsts were?

It’s the same scene, played back to front and edited together with other MH434 footage for Foyles War. The spit changes from green/grey, to PoC’s green/brown, and back to green/grey again.

It’s really easy to find. I just followed the B6274 south from Staindrop and you drive right across it! You can see the road over the river on this map, just south of Winston Village. There are public footpaths that lead along the river, but there is a steep drop down to the river bank.
See the Multimap image here – Winston Map

The bridge is on the River Tees, near Winston Village, South of Staindrop.

Beautiful footage!
Where is this bridge? I remember in a DVD Ray Hanna commenting about a few tree’s being loped, he describe the routine in a well, ‘routine’ manor. 😀

Wow small bridge big wing!!

By: Arabella-Cox - 22nd March 2008 at 18:10
Yep, that’s the one! I’ve been meaning to visit it for years, since I live fairly close, and it’s taken 20 years to get around to it!!
I was surprised how narrow the river is, even allowing for 20 years of tree growth, but watching the video on YouTube and comparing it to the following photos, it seems an island full of trees has grown up in the middle of the river which would now prevent the same scene being flown again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf3UtmHLKUU
River1.jpg shows the approach to the bridge, and river2.jpg shows the exit and the ‘new’ island.

jbritchford, the guy I knew was Chris Britchford. He did a lot of time on Shackletons and the Harrier force in Germany. Don’t know if this helps.
Sorry everybody from straying from the thread.

Looks like a replica Spitfire.

Looks like a Percival Mew Gull fuselage to me.
Interesting!

Not that i know of, but then again its most likely a distant relation, as apparently there are only 277 Britchfords in the UK (according to www.yournotme.com). If you give me some details I could ask the family, might turn up some interesting answers!!
I did have a relative who was a tech in the RAF on spitfires and possibly vulcans as well, but we didn’t share the same name.

jbritchford, have you got a relative who used to be a Chief Tech in the RAF?
By: Camlobe - 27th February 2006 at 19:41
Looks very much like a Jodel to me. But what do I know.
By: jbritchford - 26th February 2006 at 22:06
Perhaps not, but I can’t think of any other aircraft made of wood with a 2 seat configuration like this.

I don’t know what it is and there wasn’t anybody around at the time to ask. I’m not sure that it is a biplane though.
By: jbritchford - 26th February 2006 at 21:32
sorry, I couldn’t resist!!!
But on a more helpful note, it looks to me that whatever aircraft it is has a twin seat configuration, , and looks a like a biplane, being made from wood (so its a classic). At a wild guess, a tiger/gypsy moth?
By: zoot horn rollo - 26th February 2006 at 21:24
Well, spotted that man! I would never have guessed that in a million years. A fuselage? Blimey, why didn’t I think of that?
