Anyone see the Daily Mail? Concorde bashing!

Daily Mail, 27/11/03. Page 15, Ephraim Hardcastle column.

Why are Americans being allowed to exhibit Concorde in a New York museum? Their politians helped destroy the plane’s chances of success. But a senior BA source tells me: ‘Fifty years from now, I am confident the Concordes kept in America will be in perfect condition. I wish I could say the same for the ones kept here. Americans are better at this than we are.’ They’ll also remain an advertisement for BA, of course.

Anyone care to comment?

Flood.

And also to jump on things said in jest and laud them up into something that wasn’t really intended. Yes, I know, but this struck me as something that was said in confidence with a whole lot of weight behind it. Maybe the person speaking had experience of the British museums system?

the french are to blame…

If it wasnt for the massive coverup over the runway condition where the concorde crashed the ba concordes would have continued flying for a few years..

Be fair though.

When you look at all the large airliners in museums in this country all / nearly all are outdoors. Duxford, Cosford, Brooklands, Bruntingthrope et al.

Not a great deal for us to be proud of is it?

How many of the UK museum Concords will have a roof?

So the Concordes end up as glorified bill boards for BA!

I don’t think I will be able to bring myself to fly with them again.

I don’t know why the Mail are moaning about the Americans destroying Concorde,
we all know it was the French who banged the final nails in its coffin.

The TAM Museum in Sao Paulo Brazil asked for one and confirmed that it would have been kept under cover within a fantastic climate controlled purpose built museum complex which is being completed now. I beleive the first commercial route for the Air France Concorde was to Rio so there is a link with the type. Well they didn’t get a reply which perhaps is because of the “competitive” relationship that exists between BA and TAM as airlines. Their opinion is that the allocation of airframes has nothing to do with preserving the type but is more politically/marketing orientated..

From the Concorde SST site

She will initially go on display alongside the carrier, but preliminary plans have been mooted that will see her eventually on display on the quayside in a special glass built building to protect her from the elements of the Atlantic Ocean

Maybe she is not going to rot afterall

Oh go on then, I’ll bite…

So the Americans have found a way to ensure that the coastal climate will not touch the Concorde on Intrepid then. That’s jolly clever of them. Are these the same Americans who can’t stop the salt water corroding the USS Arizona memorial, and therefore causing oil to seep into Pearl Harbour in ever increasing quantities…?

Methinks Mr Senior BA Source is talking b0ll0cks. 😀
