Anyone want a TU-2?

I get sent interesting emails from some gentlemen in China “offering” various aircraft for sale, I am not sure if they are genuine, or simply someone offering an aircraft enticement (that they do not own?) to scam cash.

Previous offerings have been airworthy Nanchangs and a Yak 18.

Anyway the latest “offering” is a TU-2 in “not very good condition” that offers are sought, (usually the items have prices already).

I am not sure how many of these are lying around China unwanted, or if this is sitting in a Government Museum and some “entreprenuers” are using it as bait, but in anycase if anyone really is interested see below

(but remember “Buyer BEWARE”):

Dear sir,
I have a TU-2 available for sale. It is not in a very good condition, so anyone who is interested in it can offer me a price, and if it is a reasonable price, I will sell it. I will send you more information including pictures if you’re interested in it.
Thank you very much!
Best,

New Century International Trading Ltd.
Qiu

Again I am not endorsing these people simply making the information available, and I cannnot vouch for the legality of any proposed sale, or the bonefides of the information.

I have not progressed any deals etc with them to know anything more about them, If someone has dealt with these people, successfully or unsuccessfully please feel free to comment?

regards

Perhaps this is the start of something more impressive….

I wonder what the forum’s reaction would be if someone in China offered a Stirling for sale….

I don’t think so. Here are some pics I took back in september 1994 of the Tu-2 which I think Peter is referring to. I visited the War Eagles Museum in Santa Theresa, near El Paso. On display there was this Tu-2. According to the notes I took then, this Tu-2 last flew in 1981; her last mission was to open up a frozen river by bombing the ice (talk about drastic measures..). Afterwards she was stored in a cave from 1981 until 1992. During 1992 she was disassembled, crated and transported to Houston, and on to Santa Theresa. She is repainted since my visit: http://www.war-eagles-air-museum.com/tu-2_1.html

Just a small nit-pick – and to correct a slight inaccuracy……….

The designation is Tu-2, not TU-2 – e.g. Capital T small u.

They are the first two letters of the design bureau’s name – Tupolev OKB.

And in Russian it is pronounced Too Dva (Too two) not Tea You Two.

Rant mode off……………

Mark12,

I wasnt aware of that connection, and I did think you were joking, or referring to similar “offers” of wartime aircraft from Russian “Sellers”.

I will let you know if they offer one.

Mark12,

I’m still waiting for the first two to be delivered, apparantly the ship is delayed leaving port.

btw, I am not sure if these Chinese dealers have any access to the “Chinese” Stirling often mentioned on this site and epected soon at Legends 😀

The TU-2 however seems to exist for real somewhere

I wasn’t jesting.

There have been reports/rumours that when the Russians ditched all the western hardware in the late 1940’s, leading up to the cold war, that some Spitfires were sold/given to the Chinese.

It has never been confirmed.

When you get offered the Spitfires, supplied by the Russians, with photos, do please take them seriously. 🙂
