As we are about to move house in the next few weeks, the terrible task of ‘sorting things out’ is going full steam ahead.
My garage is full of boxes of books and magazines that I’ve collected for years and yesterday I decided that enough is enough and I want to get rid of a lot of stuff.
I suppose I could put some of this on Ebay, but I’m not interested in making money out of it.
I have an almost complete set of Flypast magazines, including the first issue, probably no more than half a dozen missing, which was down to some getting affected by damp in the corner of the garage.
Anyone interested, please don’t ask for specific issues as they are not in any particular order.
I’ve also got a load of Railway Magazines, Railway Worlds, Modern Railways etc going back to the early 70’s, and for you keen modellers, Model Railway mags covering the same period.
Most of the mags are in excellent condition, any tatty ones have been put out for recycling.
I contacted my local railway museum and offered them the Railway mags, but their lack of enthusiasm put me off that route.
If anyone collects old washing machines, I have a pristine Burco boiler from the 50’s, complete with original instructions.
As my missus points out, these mags have been building up in the garage and loft for years and I doubt whether I’ll read them again.
One thing I am keeping is a collection of old airshow programmes going back over 30 years, some of these make sad reading when you look at the names of the pilots that are no longer with us.

Its a sign of the times, I suppose. We all gradually realise that stacks of mags do not represent the best, or only way to store / access information.
We imagine that the day will come when we will at last sit down and read through these giant piles of magazines, but since I moved in 1996, mine have remained largely untouched, and to really go through them would be perhaps 3-4 weeks reading, during which time we forgo all the news/developments happening right now, which seems more appealing and relevant.
My dad collected all the Aeroplane Spotter publications from the war, hauled them round five houses and never read them again either! Now I have inherited them, and I am looking forward to not reading them as well.

I would love to have them, but I think distance is a problem.

I am in the same boat Pete.On the Planetalk forum magazines were offered and to be honest even places like Shuttleworth don’t want them.
If they need to be recycled at least they may go back to making something else readable.
