How difficult would it be to recreate a Mk II Lancaster presuming you had a Mk I or III Lancaster fuselage, wings and tail?
Has anyone ever considered it? I think they look awesome like that.
Paul.

OK but were they actually Mark II’s who has Chorley to hand? Me thinks they were because 115 Sqn had Mk II’s but I would like proof!

I didn’t see the piece, but presumably it would have been about the pair of Lancasters from Witchford? They had returned from a raid over Germany, and were both shot down in the circuit by a lurking Luftwaffe intruder. I don’t believe there were any survivors from the two crews… 🙁
Spot on.

All the Mk. IIs were built by Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft (mostly at their Sywell facility?)
Yep we think they built about 100 in a hangar built for Whitley construction by Brooklands – all MKIIs but not flown from Sywell (wouldve been a squeeze) all roaded to Bitteswell and flown from there…
Give dat man a cigar!

It was indeed very amusing to watch! I must admit that it makes a change for a reporter to get it right….. (assuming of course the crashed Lanc in question WAS a Mark II and they weren’t just covering their backsides by making the point)!

I knew a Flight Engineer who did a tour on Lancasters (MkII’s) and also flew aboard Merlin engined Lancasters but preferred the Mkii.

Yesterday look east did a little report on two Lancaster’s shot down near Ely the reporter was standing next to radial engine saying it was from one of the crashed aircraft, apparently they received many emails along the lines of “Lancaster’s had Merlin’s” “Lancaster’s never had radials from Enraged” etc etc so tonight the reporter came back on to explain that a few of the mighty Lanc’s did indeed have Bristol power.
Best to be sure of your facts before slagging of the BBC
