While this might not be the greatest movie ever made, i still think it’s decent. The acting and plot are not bad, and the effects are pretty good as well. But one of the best things about this movie are the miniature effects. While the aerodrome, western scenes were being shot in Almeria, Spain and in the English countryside, the miniature sequences were filmed at Pinewood studios.
The best two miniatures are the enormous German secret airship and it’s even bigger hangar. Here’s the picture, that i’ve managed to find on the long-deleted Gunbus website via the Wayback machine: Too bad that the behind-the-scenes pictures of this film are so hard to find, because these are some truly imaginative designs from the mind of the movie’s production designer, Tony Woollard.
I’ve also found a picture of another miniature, a very bizarre-looking Parasol plane with a slant-stripe paint scheme, and a landing gear with enormous wheels (which look like they belong to a wooden farm cart). In fact, i’m fascinated with the movie so much, that i’ve even made a 3D-model of the Vickers Gunbus as well as a short 3D-animation, which i’ve posted on youtube (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sb4jMaG0Qr4 ).
If anyone (especially those, who were involved in the production of the film) has pictures of the other miniatures, please post them here.
Thanks.
