Air New Zealand Ltd. (AIR.NZ) will introduce its first new international destination in nearly 10 years when it begins nonstop flights between Auckland and San Francisco in June, the airline said Tuesday.
San Francisco will become the airline’s second direct route to the West Coast of the U.S. after Los Angeles.
Using a 392 seat Boeing 747-400, Air New Zealand will initially operate three services a week, code sharing with Star Alliance partner United Airlines, owned by UAL Corp. (UALAQ).
“The introduction of a second direct destination on the U.S. West Coast provides an important option for travelers to the region and beyond,” said Air New Zealand Chief Executive Ralph Norris in a statement.
Regular fare pricing for the new Auckland to San Francisco service, which begins June 30, will be similar to year round Auckland to Los Angeles fares, Air NZ said.
San Francisco is the first new international destination for Air New Zealand since 1995 when it commenced flights into Fukuoka, Japan.

That is a good route, and nobody operates it non-stop, until now. Hopefully it works out for the Star Alliance. Rather off the subject, but what’s going to happen with this whole QF/NZ deal? Is it ever going to go through?
