A few days ago: Pilot Siggi Schwartz nicked the roof of the fuelling shed after landing and throttling down – the blades drooped and nicked the roof – ripping the entire transmission and rotorhead off the helo…. will be rebuilt in Salzburg at a future time!
I know Siggi – outstanding helo driver. Just goes to show you that it can happen to even the best! Thank God he walked away without a scratch!
Cheers

“Do they have a policy of using unusual historic types for publicity reasons?” – one could say they do: http://www.hangar-7.com/en/the-flying-bulls/aircraft/

For a company which is running a commercial fleet, their safety standard is not too good. They already lost four aircraft within the last ten years. Even if they have excellent and experienced pilots flying their aircrafts. I hope the austrian authorities will not cancel some of their privilleges.

The Cobra is a great looking helicopter with a wonderful sound.
Too bad the “pilot” did not match his mount!”
What a dummy, loads of space and what does he do…

Why were Red Bull using a gun ship as their aircraft?
Do they have a policy of using unusual historic types for publicity reasons?
Just seems a strange craft to use.
Here in Europe it is a rare beast, on the other side of the Atlantic it is s rather comon sight, a civil operated Cobra…. And Yes RB likes the unusual..

I’m just amazed that with all those people standing around there were no injuries! Almost a miracle as the video’s show plenty of bits flying around and you can hear them hitting the chain link fence in one.

They don’t need wings, they need blades and a gearbox! 😀

It’s all ok, Red Bull gives you wings!

Apparently Red Bull’s chopper has come a cropper. It just flows better.

This has been discussed at length on PPRuNe, the pilot in question has flown at that airfield many times, but in a different type with a smaller rotor disc. He may have unconsciously parked in the ‘usual’ place, forgetting that he needed to leave more space for the disc. Initially it looked like it hit the roof when he lowered the collective, but that first video appears to show the blades hitting the building at a lower level. Fortunately there were no injuries!

Not that it hasn’t been done before, but hovering that close to a building is a silly (and unnecessary) thing to do.
Glad there are no injuries.
Too bad a vintage/historic aircraft was destroyed.
Hopefully, they can repair the fuselage to static display level and find it a good home.
