Appointment in London…

hi,
watched a clip of the above film last night, the Lancaster crew were on a bombing mission and the master bomber was directing the raid, this I’ve since found out was a actual recording of a 8 Group (Pathfinder Force) Master bomber on a raid over Germany. So is this a factual film? it was filmed in 1953, only 9-10yrs after it was set, and was written by John Wooldridge ex Squadron Leader, a Flt. Com. on 106 Sq. under Gibson who the main character Tim Mason is said to be based on.
Also as the B.C.Memorial opening as just taken place, the end credit says it all ” this story is humbly dedicated to all those airman who were unable to keep that appointment in London.

regards,
jack…

It has been said that ‘Appointment in London’ is the most accurate portrayal of life in Bomber Command during the war. I doubt that the voice of the Master Bomber is an actual recording made during an actual raid; I doubt the sound quality would be good enough but I can believe that it is an actual transcript voiced by an actor.
