I do not know if it is common knowledge already, but the Arado 196 from Pensacola (the one that was damaged during road transport) is now in Germany, at Nordholz. It is on loan, not to the Aeronauticum Nordholz (museum) as stated somewhere else, but to the Marinefliegergeschwader 3 (“Graf Zeppelin”) at Nordholz. It is to be restored and shown during Airday 2013, celebrating 100 years of naval aviation in Germany. Though being on loan to the MFG 3, there will be access via Aeronauticum museum in the future. I have no information how long it will stay in Germany, but I presume it will be at least several years, as it has been with the Do 335 as well.

I’ve long been a supporter of placing rare or one of a kind aircraft in places where they’ll be better appreciated….and usually that means back to their homelands.
The Arado was on exterior display at Willow Grove NAS in Pennsylvania for many years. Somewhere, I have some USN-supplied B&W photos of it, circa 1982.
Its “neglect” as JagerMarty puts it, was simply on outdoor display (in a secure area and painted every few years), no worse than many other aircraft the world over. It was seen at the time as a war prize, not much more.
Here here! 😀

On loan? FFS, they should just give the Arado back to Germany considering the neglect its suffered in the USA.
I hope it’s restored nicely

Indeed. This was the second request by the German Navy for the loan, the first being denied a few years back. Strict restoration criteria apply, so I don’t think the restoration will be rushed. It will still look prity good assembled, even with the transport damage.:(

Restored within two months- impressive!
Loan is for ‘several years’ but is open to extension, thereafter to be returned to NNMA.

Lol, thought the same. Maybe it will be shown “as is” and restored later, or they simply apply some paint. I have no information about what they intend to do. It only was stated somewhere that it was difficult to get the Arado from the NNMA, and it was only granted due to loan to MFG instead of museum, and it helped there is the 100 years anniversary. At least that is what I read.
