Job Description

 

 

Piston Aircraft Engineer

Full time role working within the hangars located at our Duxford Airfield facility in South Cambridgeshire, UK.

Aircraft Restoration Co. currently maintain around 50 piston engine aircraft the majority of which are vintage types. To keep up with the operational demands of this we are expanding our engineering team with emphasis on candidates who have a comprehensive background in GA piston aircraft maintenance along with an understanding of the mechanical sympathy expected when working on vintage aircraft.

Knowledge / experience working on general aviation piston aircraft and/or vintage aircraft is an essential requirement for this role.

Required Skills:

  •  

    Enthusiastic and willing to learn the various skills involved in both maintaining and restoring the unique vintage aircraft we operate.

  • Ability to grow into a team environment and able to communicate well with colleagues.

  •  

    Good organisational skills and tidy working habits. The hangar working environment is kept to a very high standard of cleanliness and everyone within the team is expected to proactively help maintain this. Our company culture determines that no-one is too senior to drive a broom.

  •  

    Willingness to work hard and adapt to the challenges of engineering in an ever evolving aviation environment.

  •  

    Be willing to work occasional weekends as part of the weekend engineering cover schedule.

  •

So reading into this  is the emphasis increasingly going forward more on volume  GA vintage  (eg. cubs , moths and chippies) rather than big piston warbird resto, This would seem to chime with a the vibe that the UK warbird scene appears  somewhat deflated compared to recent decades and big ticket projects seem to be glacial in progress.

TBH, Tony, I can’t imagine anyone gets into historic aircraft – except maybe sales brokers – to make money, if there’s cash anywhere it’ll soon vanish up a plane.

All warbird jobs tend to be “ but you are working on Historical aircraft” which equals low pay.
