Could be a typo?

My quoted passage is a cut and paste from an e-mail from Smudge.

G-INFO gives a c/No of Y1363

Please, please correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t this aircraft V9312,( later
N3039K) instead of V9132???
If so, do we have a British regi yet?

Could be a typo?

What’s this, a Lysander thread a day?

Merlin 70 – ha ha ha… 😉

Interesting example – a UK built one I believe. … I think the initial poster is getting confused with another example as this one has never flown in the UK nor been displayed statically.

According to my correspondence with Smudge, it’s a Westland built aircraft, (so yes, British) although it was later in the war exported to and used in Canada, from where it was brought back from to the UK.

You can clearly see the wooden wing ribs, a Westland identifier.

I’m sure Smudge won’t mind me posting the history of the aircraft that he’s established, this is from July 2005:

I am at this time building Lysander V9132 back to fly. This is a rare beast as its one of the few Westland build variants left, being number 33 of their production batch built at Yeovil during 1940 although it has quite a lot of items built in 1938 on it. This one has the wooden ribbed wings rather than the tubular alloy ones of the Canadian versions. It flew with 225 – 613 and 4 Sqdns before being shipped to Canada in 1942.

And to finish by passing on an appeal for any information anyone has on V9132 to ARC at Duxford.

As has been established, this is a ‘new’ restoration.

Smudge is currently taking a break from the Lysander in building 66 as he is on secondment to work on the dark projects inside “Area 51”. In reality, whilst working on the Lysander he was just not able to make enough noise, bend enough metal, or bang his beloved hammers about enough to satisfy his cravings. 😀

Which reminds me…..has the recently arrived packing case from ******* been opened yet?

Is it a turret graft from “Diamond Lil” which is being re-converted into a LB-30 transport Liberator? :diablo:

Excellent progress

All is progressing well in building 66. Despite other project stretching resources, the Lizzie mod is looking good.

How the Lizzie will look when completed.

The plans show the simple graft of the rear turret and twin fin empenage.

No doubt Smudge will be able to provide further details of the conversion.

Interesting example – a UK built one I believe. When I last visited Dux she was still in the workshops behind the hangars and was well into its restoration. Earlier in the year “Smudge” kindly allowed me to take some piccies when he was checking dimensions and alignments using some temporary templates and string etc. I think the initial poster is getting confused with another example as this one has never flown in the UK nor been displayed statically.

Mark,

Was she ever on the airshow scene? as if I’m thinking of the same aircraft it came from Kermit as a project. He bought it from Harry Wherreat and stored her at Polk City but then bought the ex-Brian Woodford example as a ‘flyer’ in the UK so she never had any attempts at restoration prior to ARC getting hold of her.
