I was just reading through Flypasts June 2010 issue and was reading the ‘in the workshop’ article at ARCo at Duxford. Near the end it has the title NEW BUILD And I quote “in order to meet the increased demand and to realise some of the Company’s ambitions, it’s fairly obvious more room will be needed…As it seeks to expand, the first phase will be the creatio of a new hanger alongsid the current one. It will house the flyting aircraft plus pilot changing rooms ect..” It later says “it should be onsite within 18 moths or so”
So my question is…Where is it? or what happend to the plans?

Rare gems like that CIA operated Romulan Bird of Prey that came in at the weekend. DCW had his memory card wiped over for catching it on camera. Nifty things those cloaking devices… even works on hangars…:D
Surely that should be Romainlan Bird of Prey?

Ahh glad I was right 🙂
From the link posted above, thanks for that
THE BATTLE of Britain Memorial Flight’s (BBMF) Dakota and Lancaster aircraft will get a new lease of life under a contract with the Aircraft Restoration Company (ARCo) at Duxford.
Let by DE&S’ Nimrod team, the contract covers major maintenance of both aircraft to ensure they remain safe and airworthy to the current out- of-service date of 2031.
Both aircraft are big favourites with summer air show crowds across the Uk.
Work on Dakota ZA947 has already started and the aircraft is due to be returned to the RAF’s BBMF in April.
Due to space restrictions, ARCo has subcontracted
the Dakota work to Eastern Airways at Humberside Airport.
While there will be no major maintenance, Eastern Airways will carry out routine repairs and replacements on the aircraft, including on the ailerons, elevators, rudder and the main electrical distribution box. The aircraft will also be repainted.
Work on the Lancaster will not start until late 2014 and ARCo is intending to build a new hangar at Duxford in time for this work.
ARCo also holds the contract for the current round of major maintenance for the BBMF Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft.

Hmmmm……………… I wonder how big it will be, what is the wingspan of a Lancaster? that would make sense, they do the RAF’s smaller fleet already.

Just got back from Tescos and they are selling hangers at 8 for £1. Perhaps Arco should buy some of them. It will be a lot cheaper than a hangar.

I wonder what gem’s are in there current hanger.I’ve heard they let no one in there hanger and it’s nickname is area 51.
I know that they have a me108, Spitfire MK1, Lysander in Building 66, chipmunks, Ov-10 bronco and BBMF’s Hurricane. Im sure they have many more rare and unique ‘gems’ on the way!!
