Arctic vets compared to Gaddafi's murderers??

Am I missing something here or has this fool lost the plot?

Having had a basin full of officialdom and its crazy wiles and ways for three days I had some time off….and gone into “Angry Old Men” mode signing e-petitions and creating another.

Now, I have bashed off a letter about this lunatic statement to my MP.

Tomorrow I must do some work!

Might have to drop my local MP a line and ask what the heck he is thinking about? It is shocking to think that someone who went to Sandhurst, was in the Coldstream guards and if wikipedia is to be believed was also in the SAS can say this. Unless he thinks that he should have had more medals first and that these veterans are beneath him.

The sailors at just as much risk as any other allied shipping and they had less in terms of defence against attach as Naval vessels so are fully deserving of a medal in my opinion.

The man is definitely in the wrong job, merely a puppet for the penny pinching faceless MOD officials. He is certainly no friend of the veterans, me being one of them can vouch for that. After his last **** up over the National Defence Medal and it’s issue, same stance, none of us are worth a token of appreciation. I think he should be replaced by someone who gives a damn, shame on the man.

Rant over 😡

Perhaps Mr. Robathan should read the following…..

Between August 1941 and the end of the war, a total of 78 convoys made the perilous journey to and from north Russia, carrying four million tons of supplies for use by Soviet forces fighting against the German Army on the Eastern Front.

In summary, about 1400 merchant ships delivered vital supplies to Russia. 85 merchant vessels and 16 Royal Navy warships were lost. Towards the end of the war the material significance of the supplies was probably not as great as the symbolic value hence the continuation of these convoys long after the Russians had turned the German land offensive.

On the whole these convoys delivered about 4,5 million metric tons of cargoes, which is about one fourth of western allies’ total aid. The cargoes included over 7,000 airplanes, about 5,000 tanks, cars, fuel, medicines, outfit, metals and other raw materials.

The Allied seamen showed true heroism in their long and perilous sea passages in convoys, being constantly attacked by enemy forces in the appalling weather conditions of the Arctic. The bravery of these men and women who unsparingly fought for the Victory will be always remembered and respected.

The above was taken from the official website of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the United Kingdom.

I would respectfully enquire of Mr. Robathan exactly what his personal definition of ‘risk and rigour’ entails?

Forgetting for a while the sensationalist trash-tabloid headline, I am not sure what planet the guy is from

“Medals will only be awarded for campaigns that show risk and rigour.”

Maybe he thinks the risk of being torpedoed, bombed, and possibly plunged into icy seas isn’t severe enough?

Perhaps he is volunteering for a demonstration dunk? Five minutes in the sea off the North Cape should be adequate proof of his sincerity.
